~20 lbs

Probably closer to 30.

actually around 23 off my own digital scale. the aluminum frame does make a difference but the components aren't exactly top of the line, but I guess that's the best I can afford for now.
Even 23 lbs seems a big light for that bike, unless you've already been doing some parts swapping. But I suppose it's possible. Your rigid fork will reduce the weight significantly compared to mine since I have a full oil-damped front shock. Nonetheless I have much higher end parts elsewhere and I'd guess my mountain bike would be close to the 24-25 lb range. (LX, XT, SRAM 9 SL, Kevlar tires, Bontranger Mustang wheels with XT hubs, etc.).

My Shimano 105 level road bike is probably in the 20 lb range, but that's partially because I've changed a couple of parts. (105 ~ LX)

Is the water bottle holder on the seat post stem of the green bike any special model? I'd like to put a water bottle holder on those holes on my bike, but they seem to be too close to the gears for a bottle to fit there.

No they are no special at all. You problem is that you need to get a Top swing derailleur. They have the mount lower down compared to the bottom swing.

Bah, I was hoping it'd be a simple fix. :)

Fausto1, in reference to the above quote...while on long rides how often/how much time do you spend riding out of the saddle?...How much of a factor do you feel seat style plays into numbness? (ie: should I keep buying seats untill I get to one where numbness isn't a factor? how long should I wait (break-in the saddle) before trying the next one?)

Thanks
Dave
Well, the Atlanta area has lots of small-ish hills, so I'm in and out of the saddle a fair bit, but I have done long, flat century rides with my current setup and really haven't had problems with numbness. As for the saddles, it really depends on the person. I ride a Selle Italia Turbomatic 3 and love it. It's not an "anatomical" saddle, but it fits my butt right so I don't mess with other saddles. There is no "break in" to speak of with modern saddles BTW.

Do some reading at Bicycling Magazine's website or other places about review of the anatomic saddles and see what's good and what's not. Some of them are apparently great while others are actually less comfortable than a regular saddle due to poor design of the cutout for your boys. ;)

Other things: make sure your seat height is correct (ie- not too high), make sure the nose of the saddle isn't pointed up at all (I actually have mine pointed very slightly down) and get a good pair of shorts.
