Hi,

Am looking to buy the 6600 GT but I have some to dead lock. I found the The BFG GeForce 6600 GT OC ( $250 ) and the xFX 6600 GT ( $ 219 ). My question is what are the performance differences? I have not found any reviews on the BGF 6600 OC. Rolling Eyes I have an ASUS A7N8X DELUXE motherboard/ 2600 AMD/ 1 gig fo ram 3200.

Well, what I am looking for is the performance in the BFG 6600 GT OC card. XFX does seem to have a much better software bundle at a lesser price then the BFG. I mean is the extra 30$ worth it? When I can get a better software bundle and still OC the card...I need more info.

not the same amount of pipes unless you unlock them which i'm assuming you're talking about. so you can unlock an le? i thought it was just a regular nu. and its $250. you can get an nu for about the same price afaik.

for the OP, hmm it depends if you'd want to spend $30 bucks for a lifetime warrenty and a software bundle. i don't think xfx offers it. i would recommend bfg if you're not going to overclock and aren't cash strapped.
 
I guess the BFG is the best way to go. Sure the software does not offer free games but for 30$ I get life time warranty and 24/7 tech support. But how is the performance different?

ps. BFG GeForce? 6800 Ultra OC is selling for $300 however they have a deal where you can send back your older vid card and get a 40$ rebate. http://www.bfgtech.com/6800OC.html

My only concern with the 6800 is that I not sure if my pc will be able to handle the card to its full potential.

If you have an Athlon XP 2600 and you put a 6800 Ultra in it, then the CPU would definately be a bottleneck.

The 6600GT is a pretty good matchup I think. Performance difference will be negligible, only difference might be the cooling.
 
BFG 6800 Ultra's go for like $500. What you linked is the 6800NU. The only company to re-badge a 6800 Ultra was eVGA and they did not call it a LE it was called a "6800 Limited Edition" and no longer retails. You?re basically buying a Lifetime warranty with BFG and with XFX your not. Your choice if you want. Even cooling is very negligible.

Edit: This topic might be of some use to you. It seems like a serious problem. Albeit I don?t know how true it is now.

While BFG promises their warranty in good faith, i'll just put it out there that it doesn't always happen like they promise. I was shafted out of 500 dollars by VisionTek who also had a "lifetime warranty". BFG reminds me a lot of visiontek in that they are making a pretty good product with a lifetime warranty and doing very well for themselves. Now the next step is just for them to get bought out.


Also on the cooling, you are right that it isn't that big of a deal, normally. As long as the card doesn't have a radical design or huge departure from the reference design you are pretty much right on that it won't make a difference. However, if there is a design flaw with a cooler, bad run of fans, something quirky, or maybe the size could matter.

Just have to take everything into consideration. I don't see a problem with either of those on those issues though really.


But I thought maybe someone had mentioned some dislikes about the new BFG cooler or something? Maybe that was on a 6800GT though.

This is turning much harder to make then I thought. Megamixman I read that post and now I wonder if its even worth risking it. All I want is a card that is under $300 and can handle new games, but after more reading I just end up where I started. Clueless and with my 9600 pro.

oh and i forgot to mention that the xfx has dual dvi. but like i said, i recommend bfg unless you're going to overclock.

actually if you want to have a really nice card for $250 with overclocking i'd say get a 6800nu. you can unlock the pipes and 6th vertex and overclock a bit to make it almost as good as a 6800gt. but it wouldn't have a working onboard video encoder/decoder and of course, you'd void the warranty. this is what i would do personally.
