Hmm, so if this fixes it, I see no point in using Rivatuner? I havent installed my 8800gt so when I do should I go straight to the new BIOS and not worry about rivatuner?

Max was 91c now 82c. This is a lot better for these cards and I may stop using RivaTuner now.

Damn, the hottest I've ever seen mine is maybe 72 when playing the Crysis demo.

NM...I am clearly blind, I see it now.

I don't see any bios update when following your link...drivers, support etc: no bios

Do you have to reinstall the Graphics drivers or will installing it / rebooting work?

Click the support tab.
There's more than one support tab. You have to click on your specific card, then click the support tab in the window next to it.

Link is already pointing to the right card. All you have to do is press support.

Yep, but there's still more than one "support" to click on.

yes, yes I found the bios, as stated in my original post. just took a couple min to see it.

anyone know what the fan speed, and or temp that the fan speed increases ? ?

I did not download the bios for myself, but for someone else, or I would just try it and see......

Could anyone post the fan speeds, as osage mentioned...?

Would like to update, but I won't if this BIOS makes the fan run at 100% at any time.

Off topic - did your Vista 64 install with 3GB of RAM, or you had to pull out 1GB for the installation with 2GB only...?

okay so i followed their readme and no problems so far. didn't notice anything tho. (maybe because i had always used rivatuner to keep fan at 70-100%)

my GPU-Z bios revision says: 62.92.1F.00.18, is that correct?

I recently purchased one of these too and updated the bios, it was painless, the only difference is that it ramps the fan speed up sooner and it will go up to 49% if the gpu gets hot enough, old bios was pretty much locked at 29% unless things got over 80 or 90C (I forget which riva tuner said)

and the bios version you have is the new one LOUISSSSS

Great BIOS, everyone should update. RivaTuner is fine too, but it crashes my computer when I run the SpySweeper scan (yes, I forgot to turn it off again...).

Played FarCry before - temps ~92C, fan ~2000RPM.

After BIOS update - temp ~82C, fan ~2600RPM.

That makes it about 50% speed, which is barely audible (at least in my case with 5 other fans running).

The update itself is kinda "funny" - run the executable, the card will "beep", CMD window will open, and will close 3-4 seconds later, accompanied by another "beep"

That's it. Reboot and you're done.

I didn't have to re-install the Graphics Driver, even though the included "read me" says so.

I think I am going to hold off on this update. I have Vista Ultimate 64 and Riva Tuner is doing a fine job. At idle , it shows 52C and when Im playing games I have never seen it over 68C. No crashes either and Im currently playing Crysis, Bio Shock, Splinter Cell DA (finally) and other games.....I have an "old" MB and I dont want "push" it any more :)

Didn't work for me. I installed the newest nvidia drivers, 169.21 so maybe that's it. But when I run the bios update executable it either locks up my system with the command window showing that it's searching for display adapters, or the command window opens up for a brief instant and closes and it doesn't update. Back to Rivatuner.

I didn't realise it had updated, but I rebooted anyway. The control panel still showed the old bios, untill I uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers. Then the new bios is shown, 62.92.1f.00.18.

Weird.

Mine showed 1f.00.18 without the driver re-install. Not in control panel, but in Everest.

And as I said, it works great!

UPDATE: The control panels shows it correctly, too. No re-install of driver required here.
