BFG Power Supply (model BFGR650PSU)?

Definitely looks like a Topower design.

Topower is usually the OEM you turn to when you want a PSU built for the bottom dollar that won?t explode.

Yep! Sure does look like Topower. OCZ in now FSP Epsilon, so the linked pic of OCZ is old stock. Enerybody is jumping on the wannabe PSU supplier wagon. Know why? Because the mark-up is insane. From the factory dock we're looking at 500~1000% mark-up, depending on the brand and quality of the unit.

The linked OCZ & BFG have a voltage select switch, that means no Active PFC. The Topower built units have independent line regulation, so the OCZ built by Topower can have the kanobs at the rear. The FSP Epsilon does not offer independent adjustment. Meh! No big deal. But it does have aPFC.

Interesting. Thanks for linking.

I guess those margins allow bfg that "lifetime warranty" :Q

I gotta find the small print on that. Rated at 140,000 hours too.

+5v - 50A

140,000 hours is a joke.

I see from the pics it's using at least one sleeve bearing fan. Not good since sleeve bearing fans do not do well in high heat applications such as PSUs, particularly very inefficient ones like that Topower design. Even in low heat environments their life is always shorter then that of ball bearing based fans.

Clearly. But with the margins the wise old cow states, I guess they can afford to replace these a couple times and still come out ahead 😛

I've got one. It's crap.

It's not even P5 quality level. P6? Forget about it!

It's the exact same PSU as the ePower Zumax X3 ZU-650W but for twice as much money:

Money is SO MUCH better spent. I mean, if you HAVE TO HAVE ONE, get the ePower. But there's better choices.

I'll have the review up next week.

FYI: That's incorrect in even the best case scenarios. 😉

Well... Maybe if you're BFG, you can make that kind of money. But typically it doesn't work that way. 😀

Dang you! Now I'll have to find the link. PC Hardware or Xbit Labs, I can't remember but
PSUs get one hell of a mark up. That's why so many rebranders jump on the band wagon 😉

I'm betting Xbit labs. Although his testing methodology is great, I feel that Oleg is one hell of a drama queen. 😉

I know manufacture costs, tier one costs and retail for most of the brands out there. Even a "direct-to-the-street" company like FSP or Topower/ePower isn't making a 50% margin on power supplies. Only when they try to get $130 for a $75 PSU that probably cost $50 to make is there an exception to the rule.
