BFG going ATI??!! And leaving the EU market?

Not sure why any vendor should leave a large economic area without a real good reason. I mean the EU market is larger than the US.. (well ok no idea if that holds true for BFG as well) Well let's hope that they stay here.

About changing colors? That could be interesting. What would happen with their warranties for green cards?

Was wondering if they or evga would jump ship first. With fermi otw this seems like a strange thing as well.

if they weren't one of the preferred vendors, they may have not been able to get many of the gf100. can't run a business for long if you cant get enough product.
I'm pretty sure no one wants to be stuck selling g92 derivatives for another 6-9 months. the demand for those dx10 cards just can't be high enough or profitable enough given the small margins on sub $100 cards.

fine by me though. just means another hd5xx0 series vendor with lifetime warranty. I wasn't really looking forward to only being able to buy from xfx. havent heard enough about visiontek's support to consider them yet.

For BFG to start making ATI cards, does not mean they would leave NV. It's like XFX was making NV cards exclusively in the past, but now they sell cards for both ATI and NV. More NV only vendors switching to the red team proves ATI's excellent execution in recent years.

I'd love to see another top tier vendor raise the bar for ATI customers. XFX has clearly shown that people do pay attention to warranty and support, and in my experiences BFG is even a notch above XFX.

I don't really see why there are any exclusive vendors. Asus and MSI have been agnostic for years... Asus has some of the hottest cards out with their Matrix series, and MSI has worked with Unwinder to create a powerful and user friendly version of RivaTuner. Even EVGA has adopted Intel as a chipset partner, and now puts out some of the best Intel based motherboards around.

Is BFG even in the EU market to start with?

I've seen pretty much everything, including EVGA which is supposed to be rare in Europe, in Portugal, but I've never seen a frigging BFG.

indeed... hrmm if Evga, BFG get some red then that's gonna be sweet ! lol... there's a lot of money to be made by doing a double take... time of exclusivisity is almost over...

I don't understand why more vendors don't offer both Nvidia and AMD. I know that EVGA and BFG probably get better rates on GPU's for staying green-only, but I bet XFX is in better shape now then if they would have stayed Nvidia-only. I guess it must be a pretty good discount they get on those GPU's for staying with AMD or Nvidia only.

That doesn't even make any sense. AMD/ATi would be falling all over themselves to add BFG into the fold, since it would be a (perceived, at least) blow to their chief competitor. Why would they want to restrict what markets they could sell in? Wouldn't you want to work with partners that have a larger market rather than a smaller one? There's no reason ATi would want BFG to leave Europe. By BFG's own words, the market was over-saturated and hard to make a profit in. That's why they're leaving.

My very first card was a BFG. If the rumor of them coming to ATi is true, I am super excited.

Bfg arnt that big in Europe.

The EU is as you said over saturated and AMDs other board partners would not want another maker to compete there.

Its not in AMDs interests to have their board makers competing too fiercely together.

Rumor has it that when the HD 4xxx was launched EVGA was approached by ATi to collaborate but EVGA refused them, now EVGA approached ATi recently when they launched the HD 5xxx but this time ATi refused to collaborate. I am not sure if any of this is true but that's a rumor I read a while ago.

Well I suppose EVGA need AMD more now than they did then but I'd still take that rumour with a pinch of salt.

I imagine AMD's board makers wouldn't be too excited about having to compete with EVGA and BFG... I mean, what would you buy, a Diamond or EVGA 5870?

Good company selling both brands is always good in my book. Lack of selection of really good vendors is one of the reasons I tend to lean nvidia.

Most of the ATi specific brands like Powercolor, HIS, Saphire, don't have the greatest reputations but they do have cheap prices. XFX cards are more money then your typical ATi vendor cards are, if BFG joins they'll likely be the same.

Which means two manufacturer's competing in the higher price, better warranty section, which = win for us.
