The gain shouldn't be more than 10 to 20% I believe. 9600GT performs very well with just 64 shaders. How much are you getting the 8800GTS for?

...well then, you got several years of good service out of it, right?

If you want to upgrade for real, step up to a GTX 260/275/280/285.

I recently retired my 8800gts 640 SSC (the special edition one with 112 sp like the 8800gt). It was a great card, but was starting to struggle a bit at 1920 x 1200 as I couldn't run COD4 maxed out at that rez. However it ran COD4 @ 60 fps vsynched great at 1680 x 1050.

The GTX 260 is quite a bit faster -- max settings at L4D I get near 70 fps minimum now everthing maxed @ 1920 x 1200, whereas my 8800 got 58 avg and ~ 41 fps during big zombie rushes...and that was only with 4xAA/4xAF. Can't wait to see how this card handles WIC, which I basically had to put aside when I bought my LCD.

Long story but the point is, if you need > 1680 x 1050 resolution or are planning on buying a 24" LCD, go with GTX 260 or 4870/4890 at a minimum. Below that, you could probably get away with a $100 card.

See my upgrade was from ATi 850 with 16 Pipes. I wanted to Max out the y Command & Conquer 3.
At that time I had ViewSonic 19' (Actually I still have this) I been upgraded to 24' LCD DVi screen. (Running at 1900 X 1200) 16:9
However I really don't play any games; After those uprade I got married and got kids NOW
Now I do play HD content a LOT from Divx bit torrent to Blu Ray to Few HD DvD.
I think there is no point of me to even upgrade this Video Card to some thing else

An 8800GTS to a 9600GT is a very lateral upgrade; I believe there would even be some circumstances where the 9600GT is slower. It would not be worth it, especially since you don't even play games anymore.
