for those who installed it already (mine will get installed 2 morrow probably) I'd like to ask:

how noisy is it?

I want it quiet - and am willing to go for a second slot cooler - i'm worried it might be noisy because its a pretty small heatsink and fan~ my roomies 7600GT has a bigger Heatsink/Fan.

Any suggestions? I WILL want to overclock, but I'd rather have it be quiet and overclock less. I was at frys earlier and the only one they had was 33.99 so I knew coming here would probably have better options

I called Frys on the 4th, they said it was $199.00 in the store.

This deal is now VALID at Fry's B&M stores from 6/16 to 6/19!!!

Finally picked one up this morning at the City of Industry store. They still have 4-5 of them left. I'm going to hold off sending in the rebate until July comes along and see if any of the 8800GTS drop down to around $200~220. My new system build won't be ready til July/August, so I can wait it out.

Also Fry's B&M stores has the BFG 7950GT OC 512MB for $159.99 AR. Deal is good until 6/19 as well. It's $10 more online however.

My system won't be ready for another month (waiting for price drops to choose between C2D 4500 or Q6600). Can someone confirm if the cards shipping these days can be unlocked?
 
i have mine, but i have no hdd yet (on RMA arrived dead 🙁 ) can someone find out and let us know? would be awesome if it could be a 7900gt and then OC that!
 
From what I've read, its a 50/50 shot. There's no way to tell unless you try to unlock it yourself or remove the HSF and see a 7900GT chip.

I'll let you guys know how mines turns out after I have my system built. Either way, a 7900GS OC for $99.99+tax is one hell of a deal and will hold me over until more DX10 games get released.
 
does anyone have the OLD rebate that was valid till about 6/5 or so? I need that rebate form to fill it out ~ The new one i supdated for 6/13

Here is Derek Wilson's take on the 8600GT: Anandtech. IMO, it's not worth paying 40% more.

Sorry about the mix-up. I contacted Frys.com about the incorrect rebate link they had listed and they sent me the correct rebate for the 7900GS.
