Stressing my BFG right now with CoD (Far Cry Demo dloading)

So far Ive run up to 480/1000 speeds.
1600x1200 full gfx on in CoD smooth as silk and onlyhitting 64C. (Granted my room here is freakign freezing)

Who knows that besides BFG?

My XFX 5900 also has the same Hyundai chips and it overclocks past 950MHz.

Just when i was about to order the bfg 5900 from gameve.com, this comes up

this is absolutely ridicolous. xfx did a similar thing by changing the memory from 850 to 700.
now im planning to purchase the card from enpc.com, MODEL- ASLM5900 for 184.49. for all those who purchased this, is this retail and not oem?

Sorry if I missed something in the haze of posts above, but you say you OC'd your BFG 5900 (non ultra) to those speeds? Stock, it ships @ 400/850. If you got that up to 480/1000, that's even a good bit beyond what the 5950 Ultra comes at stock (475/950).

Please confirm this mad overclock. :) I was going to drop $385 bones on the 5950 Ultra, but at $161 now (the 5900), I'm thinking to jump all over this.

Would this be a worthy upgrade. I have both a 9500 pro and a 9600 pro now. I was thinking about selling the 9600 pro. Would it be worth it to replace my ATI Retail 9500 PRO with a 5900 NU??? The 9500 pro would then go in my smaller rig. Right now I play mostly Call of Duty and DesertCombat. I can sell the extra copy of Call of Duty to a buddy of mine that needs one, so the cost of upgrading would be close to nothing. It is worth it?????

Current Rigs

3.0 P4C
1.0 gig pc3200 ram
Intel D865GBF
1 - Raptor
2 - WD200 gigs w/ 8mb cache
9500 PRO 128 MB ATI RETAIL

and

2.6 P4C
1.0 gig pc3200 ram
Intel D865GBF
1- 80 gig WD w/ 8 mb cache
9600 PRO 128 MB ATI RETAIL

I don't suppose anyone who got this card would want to run the FFXI benchmark and post back?

hmmm, you should have no problem getting ~$130 for the 9600 pro and $25 for COD, so it seems like a nice upgrade for me

I wish a moderator would step up and shut down a guy like "MONEYSHOT" with his repeated thread craps.

Geez, this is a hot deal forum not a videocard fanboy forum.

If you don't think it's a hot deal then shut your pie-hole and go to the videocard forum. Pretty simple, no? Alrighty then. /rant

Now see...these nvidia cards are swell until Half Life 2 hits...that's my only real issue with them...I'm not an ATi Fanboy since I've owned almost equal numbers of each brands' cards(ATI having a lead by 1 card but that was a 2MB card that sucked).

GF2MX400, Radeon, GF4 Ti 4200, and Radeon Mobility 9000 rebranded as 9200 by shady bastards at Compaq(x1000 issue...)

Wait, no I just realized I bought a Radeon 9500 also hoping to unlock it into a 9700(failed), then I RMAed it for another one which was sadly the non-L layout and tried to make it a 9500 pro and that artifacted, so I gave up and got stuck with a 9500 also. But I don't really think that one counts since I really just wanted to hack it =p

"mad Overclock" confirmed sir. It ran CoD smooth as silk at that OC. I tried the Far Cry demo, but my CPU just cant keep up (only a 1600+... waiting on Barton 2500+ to OC)

And I Still havent maxed it out I'm sure. I had to get some sleep last night (stupid work).
I will apply the "Krusty" tweak tonight to my BFG and see what kinda speed I can get out of this girl.
There is no reason under the sun (cept the 356MB memory) to get a 5950 Ultra when this BFG can crank crazy numbers. Even the ones that are "bad" overclockers are hitting 925+ it seems.

PLEASE keep in mind my PC is kept in a pretty cold room... and it was ~1F here last night so lord only knows what my room temp was. I'm sure once summer hits and its 80F w/ humidity my BFG will have to be notched down. On the flip side of the coin AGAIN, my PC doesnt have any special cooling at all.

This BFG 5900nu is the deal of the century right now IMHO.

Im sure HL2 will run better on ATI. But NOT the ridiculous amount better that those intial and SUPER early (and ATI biased) tests showed. Do you REALLY think that Valve is going to alienate over 50% (Im taking a pretty educated guess here in assuming that +50% of gamers have NV based cards) of the gaming base just to gain favor with ATI? And vice versa for id to gain favor with NV? Valve and NV will certainly get some adjusted code and drivers so that the playing feild is even.

ANYONE that thinks that any game deisgner or publisher would alienate ATI or NV at this point is simply insane.

No offense, seriously... Talk about a HUGE bottleneck with your cards.

You're funny HOMERBOY... You need to read more reviews, and not just express your opinion. Reviews don't lie. Half Life was built on the ATI chipset, the xBox is going to use an ATI card.

Geforce, IMHO, while they WERE the best of cards, aren't meant to have ALL of their settings MAXED, but ATI is. I speak from experience, and from reviews.

Call me a FANBOY if you want. I DIDN'T START THE REVIEWS ON THIS CARD THROUGHOUT THIS THREAD. mkay, "Crazyfool"?

I seriously... SERIOULSY wish you could mute peoples posts so you wouldnt see them.
Fanboy, lets talk when the game hits the streets. Unless you or I work for Valve, all of our statements are ignorant.

Half Life was built on the ATI engine, the xBox is going to use an ATI card.

Theres no such thing as an "ATI engine". HL2 is running a DirectX9 based engine (as opposed to an OpenGL engine like HL1 did and Doom3 will). Newer ATI cards can handle DX9's pixel and vertex shaders (version 2) faster than Nvidia based cards can, but at a lower accuracy (geforcefx cards can do 32bit FP calculations, to ATI's 24bit). In reality, the decreased accuracy isn't a big deal, but ATI's performance advantage is more substantial. Geforce FX cards are more competitve in an OGL environment than DX9, but the 5700+ cards are still very capable DX9 cards - especially when priced like this 5900.

It was a total of $171. $164 + $7 s/h to Tennessee. From what I've read it's around $161 there now. Hope the rest of you get one with COD as well.

Nice. CoD makes that a really tempting deal.
