If you run that case closed & don't mind the X1900XT stock fan, you'll never even hear the 8800's fan, seriously.

There's no comparison between it & the X1K coolers

Again, i'm just very picky about noise.

The great thing is that running @ 80% is more than adequate for keeping the card cool enough.

If i was running w/ case side close, i'd likely be letting it run auto, since i doubt i'd notice it then.

I'm not doubting the sound at all, but I was wondering if that 4% really was 4% because you seemed to not like it at 85% while 81% was ok. No worries.

Yeah, what can i say, i'm a picky bastard :p

I want it to be absolutely no louder than my already existing fans, so 80% is where it shall stay ;)

As for me I put all my fans at max if I have the option. I want maximum cooling effect. I'm not annoyed by the noise at all.

You run your X1900 XT @ 100% all the time?

So i grabbed the 4x1 GB cheapo RAM :p

Next plan is to get a 4 or 8 GB ReadyBoost drive.
As Readyboost works on a 2:1 compression rate, that sets me up with 8 or 16 GB worth of cached goodness.
And get a Q6600 coming July for $266. Open Virtual PC 2007 and boot a couple of 'legacy' OS such as XP, server 2003, etc. Open the Windows Photo Gallery to view your entire photo collection. Shuffle on your whole music library and start converting your pr0n collections for your iPod (or Zune, PSP, whatever). And just for a kick, add a Super Pi 32M run.

And now launch your game. Your game will run still smooth and you will see memory usage hovering over 6~7GB easily. Enjoy!

Udated OP w/ a few OCed results.
I really wish more games had ingame benches...

lopri, wow :Q

That'd be nice.

Here in Canaduh, i can't find any decently priced 2 GB dimms yet :(
As i mentioned a few posts up, i didn't really want to go w/ 4x1 GB, since it kills any upgrade potential (w/o selling the 4x1 GB).
But it looks like it's gonna be a while before 2 GB dimms come down in price here.

I must say, in spite of occasional annoyances, i am a big Vista fan...the one bad thing about is how well it puts extra power to work for us :p
It's not a bad thing actually, it's great, but it just means that you basically cannot have too much RAM or Readyboost cache, as basically the more you have, the faster/smoother everything loads/runs/etc.

XP i found, well, it doesn't scale w/ better hardware.
Once you have a decent PC, the only things that run faster in XP are appz actually using the CPU/RAM/GPU/etc.

Vista is pretty much a limitless beast in terms of how much you can cache, so there's really no limit to how much faster you can make your system.
Actually, the limit is the wallet :(

Ooops.. I somehow thought you had 8GB.. Well, then just take the useless Super Pi out. And Server 2003. It will satisfy your 4GB + 2GB ReadyBoost. ;)

I agree with your assessment on Vista's ability to take advantage of hardware. (As a matter of fact, it got me into storage system which seems to be a bottleneck more often than not, with Vista.)

Bump and a few question for the OP: How well does the GTX handle 25x16 resolution? I know there are benchmark numbers out there but they are usually average FPS and we know the actual gaming experience can be different. Do you feel the GTX is good enough to handle such high a resolution? Do you experience stuttering or jerkiness with certain games? And how well does the 30"er scale down, if you wanted to? Do you notice a big difference when you scale down to 1920x1200? How about 1680x1050?

Heh.. lots of questions. ;)

Truth is, i haven't played too many games that will really push the card yet.

I want to try Prey (played the demo, but not the game still).

I will reinstall Oblivion, but i suspect it won't run well @ 2560x1600 4x aa 16x af.

Stalker is another i'd like to run more.

As i mentioned in the PM, i am getting a stutter in UT2k4 occasionally...frankly it's really pissing me off, as i chug to a stop for a second or two, & then everything unchugs back to normal.

Except then i'm dead, since while i was lagged up, i got fragged.

As for running lower resolutions on this LCD, they do look okay.
Arguably this 3007 scales up better than any LCD i've ever seen (especially for video), but i can't tolerate any kind of scaling in games, so i either run @ max resolution or in what nV words as "Do Not Scale" or ATi calls "Centered Timings"

IOW, the game will be running at it's own resolution of say 1600x1200, with black bars around the sides.
