BFG 7800GTX's, not at advertised speeds?

Gouging is very frustrating for sure. But just the same, I would not attribute this to any BFG wrongdoing. Not saying you are, just info. This is why I tend not to be an early adopter. I usually wait a few months after release and purchase when it actually hits close to MSRP. I did not buy my 6800GT until it hit 399.00. I hate paying over MSRP as well. But now it might be a little different as there is no competition for the 7800 series until at LEAST late August and thus no real reason to drive the prices of 7800's down. It sucks. I want ATI to get their R520 to market ASAP and fully functional to drive down nvidia prices and let the pricewar begin. Sorry for the slight OT, just kinda morphs.

I was dead set on waiting for the R520, before buying anything. But BF2 made me overhaul my whole PC. In doing so, a friend at the same time moved from Intel, to AMD. We got to talking, and I sold him my A8N-SLI, 3500+. Then he needed a video card.. and reviews showed BF2 running much better on a 7800GTX, than my X850XT/PE. At 1920x1200, I was getting only about 30-35fps, and I wanted more. So I sold him my card too, and ordered the 7800GTX.

It goes against what I advise others to do, in waiting. But to be honest, I dont think ATi will have their card out in the next few months. And I want faster frames now.

Are you dense? The forum I linked to with people who thought it was the wrong speed, is the most NV bias forum and website there is, nvnews. I guess they are "dissin" "nividia" too? NOTHING that I wrote was against NV in any way. I put a question mark in the topic, becuase I wasnt sure it was true. If it was true, it would have been BFG's problem, not NV's.

How about trying to write a decent sentence, and learn to spell please. Its painful to try and read yours as it is.

edit, this thread is dead. Speeds seem to be fine, just a software problem. Let it be dead.

I'm sorry, I was just kidding. I've read so much of the flame-debates and I though it'd be funny to post like that at least once. 😀

What with other people calling you an ATi fanboy and everything, the arguments with Rollo/Ronin and so on...

ZZF. They had it for $599, like everyone else. Then it went out of stock, came back yesterday, at $619+ free 2-day. I HATE paying over MSRP, but did anyways. I sold something online, that I got for free, for a little over $20. So it didnt feel like I was spending $20 over MSRP.. makes me feel better, sorta. Now ZZF has the eVGA model for $549 and free 2-day shipping, but went out of stock fast. Ugh!!

Monarch too had the BFG for $599 and free shipping. Then raised it to $624, plus $7something shipping yesterday, when I was ready to order. Which just annoys me to no end that they price gouge, because most people want the BFG version.

I was going to wait till Monday, or later in the week to order, hoping for a price drop. But I got all my other new parts in, and my PC is sitting there ready, just waiting for a video card. And me with this new BF2 copy waiting to be played. So I went ahead and ordered it...
Heh, dunno if you can still cancel your order, but you should be able to get it from Best Buy 2 day shipped for about $560. I went through a similar thing to you. Kept ordering at one place, then cancelling and ordering somewhere else for cheaper, then cancelling that. I doubt I'll find a better deal than the $599 - $50 coupon + $7.99 2-day Best Buy has anytime soon though.

So you think I'm a troll ronnn? Or just feeling provacative at the moment... Oh wait, lemme guess, you want to play the psychologist game again? I don't ever want to hear that you never started anything. Beer or not.

Man you guys had me going there until I got about half way through this thread.

I'm getting my GTX on Wed or Thursday.

Man stuff can get out of hand quick around here.

There is an update on the thread at NVnews where someone heard from a BFG tech support person.

Everyone that has BFG 7800 GTX please post your Bios versions (what the sticker says on the card and what the display properties say the bios version is) and your default clock speeds. This will probably help BFG to see if there is even an issue. It seems that it's just a coolbits issue.

From the nvnews thread:

I just talked to BFG tech support too as my card has the .22 BIOS as opposed to the .25 that everyone is talking about. They said that they could get my BIOS updated to .25 (w/o RMA) by sending me a flash tool so I can flash the card myself. I recommend calling them up again and asking about it. Their flash tool extracted to a floppy and automatically flashed the card on reboot. It appears to have fixed the coolbits issue as my clocks are solidly 460/1300MHz; good stuff!

Problem solved! *puts the flamethrower away* 😀
