BFG 7800GS OC AGP - $159

make sure it will fit your case and mobo cause it is huge. i replaced a 6600gt with this on an Asus p4p800 and i had to file down the locking tabs on the first 3 memory slots to get it to fit.

its in and working great.

Think it's worth selling my X800XT PE and getting this, or is the difference so negligible that I shouldn't bother?

Don't bother.
edit: Oh, you have the X800 and not the X850, idk then.

there isn't much difference between the x800xtpe and x850xtpe ...

the 7800GS would not be a huge upgrade ... most of the x800-850xt people are upgrading to the x1950p ... but then it is generally priced $200-250

not a bad deal if you don't mind a $50 rebate ... ends the last Day of January

You would get a performance boost, plus SM3.0\HDR\Purevideo.

it munches it... it's faster than x850xt, and my kid plays most things on his 2.2 a64/2gb/512mb xt850xt (at pe speeds) with some eyecandy at 1600x1200... most reports say the 7800 oc's pretty good, too...

6600gt is about 1/3 the performance.

7800gs would be a huge upgrade for ya, and would probably allow you to play all games for another couple years or more.

probably not
[unless you can sell your current card for decent $$]

for a real [noticeable] upgrade, you are probably looking at x1950p

you guys might want to look at some benchmarks

... or visit Video 😛

😀

Since APoppin is being so helpful, here's another question: Would going from a 6800nu to the 7800GS make any sense?

I really don't want to build a new PC just to play UT2007.

Why do people always recommend a card that is at least $100 more.

At this price you won't find a better card for AGP.

I believe upgrading from 6800nu makes since only if you want to stay with AGP.
It certainly makes more sense than upgrading from an X800XT/X850XT. HDR on
games that support it is about the only thing SM3.0 nets you right now vs SM2.0.

C Snyder

EDIT, the more I think about it, this deal is really warm at best since you have the
hassle of a rebate, otherwise this would be a great deal.

why? because SniperZ asked if it was *worthwhile* to upgrade from a 6800GS 😉

my reply was directed specifically to him ... and i wanted to give him *options*

since you probably know more about nvidia, would *you* recommend he *upgrade* from a 6800GS to a 7800GS?
😕

and i believe you can get a x1950p at NewEgg for $229 ... which will give a *real* performance increase from a 6800GS for only $70 more than your 7800GS [which IS an excellent deal for *some*] and there is no rebate to wait for. 😛
