I bought this card from outpost last month. I over clocked it to 407/800 and was able to unlock the pipelines and shader vertices. It gave me about an 1800 point jump on 3dMark 03 :D .

Here's the link for the hardforum thread on unlocking it. Link

If you have the money, hit newegg or Zipzoomfly and buy the EVCA 6800 Limited edition, it comes clocked @ 325/1100 i've clocked 2 of the 4 i bought over 400+ and 1200 mem. The've been selling for around $329 shipped @ both places. 1.6ns memory

Actually zipzoomfly upped their price to $349, supply and demand. Newegg hasn't had these in stock for about a week.

this is hot hot!!! i live in texas and they still had the coupons and said you can use coupons even today! even though texas's region was actually yesterday. it was 250 and they took 12 % off the original marked price, making this card to come out to about 231 AFTER TAX. this is HOT HOT DEAL. checked everywhere in dallas/ft worth metroplex and all BB's had them in stock.

Great deal. Price tag on shelf was $299. I explained that it was $249.99 on their website. BestBuy sales guy checked his computer and claimed that (as a previous poster mentioned) the in-store price $255.99 and "there was probably a mail-in rebate for the $6 difference". Yeah, right.

Anyway, I asked for an Internet connection, showed him the price on his own website and after "talking with his manager" he agreed to honor their own $249.99 price. Then I used my $2 in McDonald's coupons just to be cheap. :)

Yep, pretty hot. :) I just got back from Best Buy ..my 6800 OC was $225.27 + tx :)

Say, my BB had at least two seperate batches of these cards, I noticed the capacitors were different in one area on the board...the area to the upper right side of the heatsink and there is a number that was different.

Some of the cards were "D33088" and some were "D33058" ...I chose the latest number but Id really like some more info on this...if the earlier number was a better card I could always go back and exchange it.

Oh yeah - a question for the guys that have actually gotten a hold of one. How does the sound compare to a Abit Siluro w/ OTES tech? I couldn't stand the vacuum cleaner type loudness on that.

Nope--it's a bummer but I didn't get a chance to grab the 12% coupon before I ran off to the store. Still a good deal though.

Yeah...I don't understand this at all. I experienced something similar. At one Best Buy it was $299 (even though it was $255 there last week and I had remembered it said that the price was thru 10/30). I didn't want to argue so I went to another close by Best Buy and they still had the sign on it for $255 and it came up that way in the system. The ad circular for this week on the other hand, list the $299 price. Crazy! The right hand and left hand do not know what the other is doing.

Also inconsistent was the first store had the Freind & Family coupons right at the checkout. All you had to do is ask to use one on your purchase. Meanwhile the second store had them all put away none in site. Luckily I actually knew someone who worked at this store so he got me the 12% off.

It should be $249 as the website says. If you were able to use the coupon then it would be cheaper.

earlier post in this thread.. people said they were able to purchase it with the coupon... but the BB workers said i couldn't since they tried to scan the card and coupon at 4:30(time of purchase attempt) saying it was not valid with the card... so it was no way my fault that i missed out the good deal... do u think they would let me purchase it tomorrow, if i explained my situation

not my fault cause :
1. they said the coupon was valid all day
2. they said the card was not valid with the coupon
3. i asked if i needed to come back between 6-9.. they said no.

I am thinking of buying this card to replace my 9800pro.

point being if I sucessfully unlock all pipes and shaders and overclock it 400 core 800 mem will I be able
to smoothly play Doom3 at 1600 x 1200?

Just bought a new 2001FP and I would like to play in narive rez that my 9800pro chokes on.

i'm hoping for 50+ frames 1600 x 1200 medium or high textures

Thanks

I have a 2001FP as well, I just got my 6800 OC yesterday and I can play Farcry @ 1600x1200 with medium quality and a solid upper 50s FPS, everything max the framerate drops quite abit but the good news is the PQ loss is minimal. IMO being able to play at 1600x1200 at a playable frame rate is enought to make me happy. I am not OCing and doubt OCing this card would yeild a whole lot more than what it does stock for real world gameplay. Right out of the box it has 12 pipes and is 350mhz core and 700mhz ram. I sold my 9800 Pro quite awhile ago but so far its pretty obvious that the 6800 is a huge step up for newer games.

Is this a better bang for the buck than getting a GT?

My LCD can only do 1280 x 1024max so will this be a significant step up from my 9800np?

I think it's a better bang for the buck. Many people have been able to unlock their 6800's locked pipes and shaders boosting their framerates and benchmark scores significantly. I won't install mine until next week so I will be crossing my fingers that I can unlock them too. But I think this is a good card even if I can't. But hopefully I can. :)

And yes davidos...I think it's a significant step up to over an ATI 9800np. I had been looking at getting a 9800pro actually, but when I found I could get a faster card in the 6800 for not much more then a 9800pro I changed my mind. And it was even better with thr BB deal. If I am sucessful in unlocking the pipes and shader on my card, I will have gotten a card with about double the performance for only $25 more!

Haven't bought a video card in 3 years. Looking to upgrade my slowly dying GF3 Ti220.

Can you explain just a bit more about unlocking the extra pipelines and shaders? Is this done through a software hack? I'm thinking this might be the best value card right now. Trying to gather all the info. Do most of these cards seem to unlock? What exactly am I gaining by unlocking these extra items?

Thanks for any help. I just haven't bought a new video card in some time and back then there were only 2 or 3 chipsets worth a crap. Now, there's 200 different types of cards...
