BFG 6800GT temps high/performance?

Just got my vcard and here are the temps:

GPU: 74C
Ambient: 55C

Is that high? My room is somewhat hot. I'm using 71.81 which I heard sometimes has to do with the temp. Any comment?

Get the Nv Silencer 5, it works wonders, it actully blows the hot air from your vid card out the case.

I changed my driver to 66.93 (one from nvidia site) and my temp droped down to

GPU: 61C
Ambient: 45C

What drivers r u guys using?

Seems normal.

Yeah, it is the temp bug of the driver. People were discussing it in guru3d. You can solve it by changing the 2d core to 401MHz. I'm still reading on that. The new 75.90 seems good but still has temp bug.

75c is not all that bad on a load. Just don't go beyond 80c or your card will experience what I have come to call "rocky roadage". I had a PNY 5200 that would reach 90c and literally crash and burn, and that was just with playing SKI FREE on windows 95!

Yeah, it is a dell 8250 from that hot deal. The only fan in it is the cpu exhaust fan. I'm trying to replace my 9700tx with this 6800gt to play CS:S. My system is p4 2.4C and I feel like it is cpu limited. I don't want to switch everything yet. What fps do u guys get at 12x10 w/ 8xAF and 4xAA? I'm getting 30-40fps and sometimes drop down to 20fps. I'm playing on server with 32 people.

BTW: how much do u guys think I can get for ati 9700tx?

I almost never get anything lower than 60 with the settings you mentioned, when tehre's nothing much on screen, I can get upwards of 100.

Depends on your system RAM...Anything more than a GB Id say 256MB...Is actually the system memory that would be used incase the video memory runs out....Not that its needed by any means for 256Mb vid cards.....but still

I have 768MB and i'm going to set it to 128MB. I tried turn off fast write but it didn't help. I'm still getting low fps in CSS.

I'm getting ~4600 in 3dmark05

Yeah don't mind me, I tend to go into smartass mode in the wee-hours. But yeah 128mb aprature is probably best for your settup although it generally doesn't matter much either way, and your 3dmark score sounds about right considering the rest of your settup.

No, I tried both with vsync on and off. I got the same fps for both situations. I ran the stress test and I got ~79fps at that settings. Does that sound right? Why am I getting low fps during play?

i have an NV 5 cooler on my BFG 6800GT and i'm still idling at around 58-60 which seems way high to me. im thinking about reinstalling the cooler, im guessing i dont have good contact between copper and gpu, maybe need a little more arctic silver.
