BFG 6800gt getting 23 fps at 1024x768 high quality Doom3

Rage187

Lifer
Heres sys spec

AMD XP 2600
1gig 333 ddr
SB Audigy 2 NX
BFG 6800gt

Running dx9.0c
Force 61.80's

I have checked just about every damn setting and no matter what resolution, even 800x600 stutters.

I'm totally lost.

I have checked every damn place that AA or AS might be turned on, I have left all optimizations on, I can even set it from High Quality to High Performance and it not make a difference.

When I look at the properties of the card it shows it on a PCI bus??? Although it shows agp 4x for the adapter.

Someone help me get this damn thing cranking.

THX in advance.

P.S. I'm replacing a BFG 5900. I unitinstalled the drivers/card, rebooted and ran driver cleaner. Installed the 61.77's and then eventually went up to the 61.80's. I even tried OC'ing it and it made no difference.

Sounds like you're on AGP 4x, first of all. Also check the Nvidia optimizations, it's important for some of them to be turned on.

***HUGE RED FLAG GOES UP HERE***

You pooched something in your driver install. Badly. Blow away your motherboard drivers (you don't say what it is, I'm assuming nF2) and reload the 4.40s, then do likewise with the Forceware.

It's your system. Your cpu cannot satisfy your 6800GT. Take a look HERE!
Maybe you can find the reason there.

Yeah I read the review, it looks like I should be at about 55fps, so I'm getting half of what i should be.

In the process now of finding a 64 setup.

Actually its worse, its VIA kt333. I'm using the latest mobo drivers, I installed those after the first time it was crappy w/ no difference.

Holy crap, that's the problem. You're running your card in PCI mode. Get that thing on the AGP bus, quick!

FFR. 😀

This is what it says in the adapter properties

Location PCI bus 1, device 0, function 0

"i assume youve tried other games? How do they run?"

Tried GTA vice city and it stutters just not as bad.

Yeah, sounds like your drivers are wonked for either your GPU or your AGP controller on the motherboard. Scrutinize those two really well and you'll probably find the problem.

I don't trust it. I trust Windows more. SANDRA, IIRC, simply tells you what the drivers are telling it, even if they're misinformed...

Ya what is it with all these post about 4x AGP cutting performance in half..

Or even a third..

LESS than 3% in MOST, or almost ALL benchmarks..

😀

I am not sure if you are being sarcastic, but running in PCI mode seriously degrades performance, especially in many new games.

[ed] NM, you are talking about AGP8X VS AGP4X

Well it seems no matter what resolution or quality I run it at I get about the same fps 21-23. Even at High Quality 1600x1200 I got just as much as I got at Med 800x600.

*wet farting noise*

DOESN'T MATTER! AGP/PCIE BUS BANDWIDTH ABOVE 4X DOESN'T MEAN DIDDLY!

This can vary btw.. I've seen tests saying both things.. My personal experiance is that 8xAGP helps a good bit, at least it did for me, and was noticable..

But everything i've read says PCI-Express vs AGP is less than 1% difference. Now that is crap.. lol

The only time the 4X AGP bus is saturated these days is in heavy video editing or 3D Rendering where the Video Card is speaking with the processor alot of has to swap data back and forth with system RAM a lot.

Games these days all precache needed information into video RAM during loading - Bus speeds means nothing if you're at 4X or above. Below 4X, information coming to/from the CPU/system starts to have a hard time flowing through the pipe at appropriate rates, and thus the performance slowdown.

I don't think that his AGP isn't working...

My GT is working just fine and the Location is also PCI bus 1, device 0, function 0

I would assume that everyone's system will show this for their AGP card.

OK fixed it!!!!

Was a sound driver for my audigy, made sense since it affected every ress and quality setting.

Now running at 1600x1200 High Quality 39.3fps which I think is more than playable.

I'm being held back by my Thouroughbred, if I had a Barton I could see me getting another 15fps.

New 6800 GT OC here, also reading PCI bus 1, device 0, function 0.

Wait, someone uncorked hell in my bathroom... the toilet paper, it's... posessed!

ARRRRGGGHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

AIIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
