I just got my BFG 6800GT and can't use it on my LCD through DVI because it's widescreen at a 1280x768 resolution. The most it will allow 1024x768 (1280x1024 if I uninstall my monitor driver to plug and play which is wrong). I tried to create a custom resolution at 1280x768 (which incidentally has been natively supported by my BBA 9700P, 9800, 9800P, X800P) and it doesn't work! It says it's at 1280x768 but it's actually 1280x1024 (I know this as I've tried to run the display out of spec on my ATI cards).

BFG has CONFIRMED that the only supported resolutions through DVI on their 6800GT are:

640x480
800x600
1024x768
1280x1024

THAT'S IT folks! UNF*CKINGBELIEVABLE POS :disgust:

I can't believe this crap. Like I'm ever buying a BFG again. The first and last time. Incidentally, every driver set that I tried 61.34, 61.45, 61.71, 61.80 officially supports 1280x768 so I was stumped until I read a post on Hardocp confirming this issue. I am so pissed. I'm about to roll back to ATI, at least I don't have to play Sherlock Holmes with BBA products, they work right all the time.

Wow, I have never heard about this before?

So 1600x1200 is not supported? Wow, this card belongs in the trash can.

Actually, its kind of funny. Best Buy found a way to screw you over anyway.

Yeah, that's a great idea EXCEPT THEY INTENTIONALLY HID THIS FACT FROM PURCHASERS

Yup, they tried to save $.50 They claim they had no idea people would want to use LCDs at anything other than those four resolutions. Apparently they have been receiving "negative feedback" in the last couple of days over their cheapness. Go figure.

I find it hard to believe that nV would regress on the DVI front from the FX line. Are you sure you can't add 12x7 with Powerstrip or simply by hand?

The 12x10 limit seems kind of stupid, too, as most DVI cards I read about give you the option of 16x12 at a reduced frequency. As long as they're using a standard 165MHz TDMS thingamajig, I'd think you could just use any old res + refresh that falls under 165MHz. BFG says no dice, or just that they don't/won't "officially" support anything other than that puny list?

Honestly, 640x480? For an LCD? WTFBBQ? Is that taking into account driving a busted CRT via that DVI port, or what?

It's nvidia's fault in that they're not doing qc checks on their vendors. It's BFG's fault in that they're cheap and incompetent. It's impossible to support any other resolutions with this card; I've tried.

I don't think so. This really reads as too ridiculously stupid to be accidental.

To venture a guess, they might be hoping the cards are returned so they can give you your money back.

Edit: Taken from hardocp forum. should be a nice read

what? Is this true? You got to be kidding me. 1600x1200 isn't supported via DVI? Huh? You sure? I bought this card to play 1600x1200 on my Dell 2001FP. I guess I can find out for myself tommorrow but this is insane if this is true.

Wow, if this is true then this card will be going on Ebay. Did BFG say anything about fixing this? Does the BFG Ultra have this limitation?

Says lot about the components BFG use on their cards if this is true.

Via e-mail to you, or a website proclamation, or...?

I don't doubt you, just BFG. I thought DVI's TDMS [sic?] was the same as a good old RAMDAC in that you could just play with the res and refresh within its limits simply by editing a text file.

All cards dont support widescreen resolution. Also, I seriously doubt this card doesn't support 1600x1200. I call shens, and will test this tomorrow. If you lied about this I hope you get banned.. why is there no credibile information regarding this anywhere?

Repeat I will be testing this tomorrow, I'm getting a BFG GT and I have a 2001fp stay tuned.

I just checked BFG Asylum FAQ on their support site and it says DVI max is 1280x1024. I guess this explains why I am not able to get bootup BIOS on my BFG 5900 when using my Dell 2001FP. It works fine when Windows is loaded but I have this cannot detect display on my LCD until Windows. It wasn't a major problem since I run dual screen and was able to see the whole bootup process with my Sony G520P CRT. I never had this problem with Radeon 9100 or 9800. Only when I switched to BFG 5900. My guess is that 1600x1200 DVI will work on 6800 GT like the 5900 although it won't be officially supported. So it looks like BFG cards are out of compliance at 1600x1200 DVI and may or may not work at that res.

I'll let you guys know tomorrow evening if this BFG 6800 GT works at 1600x1200 DVI. Even if it does, I would suggest not buying BFG cards until they fix this issue if you use or plan to use high res LCD.

Check BFG site and go to tech support. Click on FAQ and it says in there that DVI limit is 1280x1024.

Deja Vu. Feels like Geforce 2&3 and crappy 2D filters all over again. Shame shame.

It appears that PNY/EVGA/Gainward support 1600 x 1200 for their GT cards, some even higher.

BFG doesn't. :frown:

Please do.

Analog is fine. It's supported up to 2048x1536 @ 85hz. But many people have 1600x1200 LCDs. So this could be major problem. I've feeling 1600x1200 will work although it's not officially supported. It'll be running out of compliance just like my current BFG FX5900.

I hope you get banned for being an idiot. FOR THE LAST TIME, BFG themselves have confirmed the information I am listing.
