BFG 6800 OC Owners - How Loud is Your Card?

I've pretty much decided to order one of these babies over the 6600 GT I was going to get ... But I've read several posts from users complaining that the BFG was a really loud card. If you have owned one, how loud did you think it was? I'm trying to keep my case noise to a minimum.
(Yes, I know I can install a quieter fan but I'm a total newb at that so I'd rather just keep it stock if possible.)

I was running a 9700pro with OCZ 520 w psu and 2 80x25mm cases (whisper quiet fans from mad dog at compusa rated at 22db)....installed the BFG OC and this sounded like a small vacuum...

I got gainwards expert tool and lowered fan speed to 50% and it is 1000x times better still slightly louder than before but nearly quiet but I am still thinking about getting rid of it

got it at BB and it unlocks and may oc well too

Damn! That's what I was afraid of, neal - that "vacuum sound." You say you lowered the fan speed 50 percent ... what did that do to card temp? I would imagine slowing the fan down that much could lead to heat build-up ... And you say you're still thinking of getting rid of it because it is still too loud?

I had one in my machine for about 10 minutes and it sounded like a vacuum. The rest of my computer is quiet and that helped force me to return it.

I don't notice it, but there is ambient noise from all the stuff running in my room. Also, the computer is under my table.

I guess it all depends what you are used to.

at post the fans are quite loud but it quiets down when window loads up and I can barely hear it .

perhaps some models are different.

dont bother me at all, i have 4 antec blue LED fans in and the cpu fan ALWAYS running lowest speed plus 2 psu fans and i hate noise and its not that loud honestly. these guys must be used to a almost completely silent fan. my 9800 pro was louder imo

Mustang SVT...I suspect are card are very similar..no A60 sticker and check mark..I just hate fan noise...but as I said with gainward's tools it is much better

YMMV of course..this is my ears and tolerances

as for temps I am not sure yet

I have a BFG 6800OC as well. In my Dell Poweredge 400SC, I really can't hear it. At night while the comp is on idle at the desktop with no heavy use, I still can not hear it. Mind you that the tower is also next to my bed, I still can not hear the BFG card dual fans running.

Thanks for the additional responses, everyone. I'm about to find out for myself how loud this thing is, as I just walked in the door with one.

Nice! I don't mind the noise on mine after Windows loads the driver. I broke one of the heatsink studs that hold the screws while replacing the thermal grease with Ceramique, so I have an NV Silencer 5 coming my way. 😎

You can adjust the speed of the fans manually for even quieter operation using Gainward ExperTool 3.20 (newer versions don't work on this card, I'm told)

Since I started this thread I feel like I should post my own findings ... The BFG 6800 OC makes LESS noise than my old Ti 4600! So not only was this not a problem - it's actually an improvement. Something to think about for anyone else who had the same concerns I did ....

Newegg has two different versions of the 6800GT, and the difference appears to be in the number of fans. There's one that sports two fans and blue LEDs, and one that appears to have just one fan and no LEDs. Which one did you get?
