nod towards the antec unit myself, currently running a true power 430 and not issues at all
 
get the antec the 550 is one of teh best Power supplys out there

and the x-conect is over priced and underpowered

i dont like the first one because it "only" has 24A on the 12V and if i were to get a PSU with only ONE rail then i would DEFINATLY get one with at least 30A on the 12V rail.

I do NOT like the second one even if the specs sound good. 34A on the 12V sounds very good, BUT it is a brand i never heard of and it looks like fancy/ricer **** noone cares about. WHo cares about the finish of a PSU and how it looks and how shiny it is ?

I might err, it could also be a good PSU..but i would definatly go with a good brand like Enermax, and here i would get the one

or the noisetakers with their dual rails...but personally i am not a fan of dual rails, i prefer power on ONE rail 🙂
 
Thanks for the replies! Im kinda leaning for the Antec one but i did just notice the higher 12v on the Ultra..now im all confused 🙁...more replies are welcome!
 
higher A on the 12V are always good..you do NOT need 40A on the 5V (except you have 1000000 drives/HDs which run off 5V). The 24A on the 12V are "ok"....but i personally would NOT spend $96 on such a PSU because i know you can get MUCH better for that price. Eg. ATX2.0 powersupply with dual rails (eg. 18A /16A on two 12V rails)....OR strong 33A with ONE rail. (Like the enermax whisper II/ noisetakers)

This antec psu does not make much sense to me, maybe its for servers etc. w/ many drives.

I agree. I plan on getting an Enermax 480 ATX 2.0 PSU w/ dual 12V rails within the week. Doesn't have active PFC (whatever that really means), but everything else exceeds my expectations.

its because its the older version pre ATX 2.0, its still a great PS by all means and its 12V rail is fine
the Neopower isof teh newer variety with dual 12v rails

it will have more then enough power

and yes the old 550 was more of a server PSU, i had one running 11 7200 RPM HDDs and 2 Optical Drives flawlessly at one point
 
Enermax 475 @ $85 should be much much quieter than the loud Antec 550.

For the money i'd rather get the Enermax 475 since it has higher Amps on 3.3 and 12V rails. Over the forums here, I read that Antec are made by the same company that makes Enermax (or vice versa). This makes them both quality PSUs. But why overpay for the Antec, especially since its specs are inferior?

Otherwise OCZ 470 or 520.

oh....I also stumbled upon this one - Fortron 500 BlueStorm

1. It has sleeved cables
2. quiet - 23db fan
3. forton one of the most reliable brands ever in PSU industry
4. dual 12V rails @ 15A each
5. support 24-pin, SATA, and PCIe => ATX 2.0

 
Ok with regard to my recommendation to Fortron New Blue Storm series....I take that back.

I just found this useful review which highlights all of the negative aspects of the newly redesigned fortron series. So for a Forton power supply, I only recommend the old 530 one if you decide to go that way.

This made me realize that power supply ratings (wattage, amps on the rails, don't necessarily tell you the whole story)

So I am going to recommend you to get OCZ 420 for the same price.
