I just got off the phone with "Dan" in tech support at BFG. Having spoken with them about two weeks ago about the issue, it seems, based on his "Gee, we hadn't heard of that, sir!" attitude that BFG isn't taking this seriously. I also got the line about addressing the issue with nVidia to which I promptly responded that nVidia is saying the same thing about retailers and distribution partners. It's starting to seem that the OCP issue was one that all parties where aware of, and they assumed that we would simply allow ourselves to be BS'd into silence. For those with BFG cards I suggest staying on them about it, if for no other reason than to force a promise of RMA's when a functional stepping of the 6800 appears.

I've moved mountains before to avoid being recreationally screwed. Correcting this situation should be easy with a few hundred other people whamming shovels. ;) Luck won?t even come into it.

On-chip-processor. That part of my 6800 GT OC that was advertised as being fully functional which isn't. Whether you should be worried depends on how you use your machine and how you feel about being sold a defective product.

This is more often known as the PVP ("Personal Video Processor"?) chip, not "OCP". Please stick to the GIANT OFFICIAL THREAD already opened for this issue, instead of creating new ones and not being clear about what you're talking about. :)

Slapping a smiley on the end doesn't make your post useful or palatable, sir. My post was designed as an appeal to BFG owners only, and I didn't want it to get lost in the "GIANT OFFICIAL THREAD." I explained it the way I understand it, not feeling the need to suit your fancy. In the future you might want to consider busying yourself with something other than acting as an unauthorized moderator.

first up, the man had a point. had u labled it a PVP then i would have known what you were on about.

futhermore, maybe its just me, but i find it very hard to blame BFG for a feature that they DONT mention on there box at all ( using the words Personal video Processor ). if anyones to blame it's Nvidia, AFAIK the boys at BFG did good, theyve mad a superb 3d card at a excellent price.

From what i have read the 6600/6200 where this featuyre is working its only WMV acceleration on those anyway. Personally, i braught my BFG to play games at extreme speed and visula quality. For my video ( div-x/x-vid, WMV etc ) i braught a nice CPU!!

All the best

Do you think the BBB in Illinois is going to understand "PVP" as a discriptor of the problem? Nope. The people I spoke with wanted to know what was wrong, not another fanboy TLA. Hell, tech support at BFG didn't know what "PVP" meant, OVER SEPARATE TWO CALLS. Some of you guys really need to vacate your own heads now and then and smell the reality. This isn't about blame or any personal sh1t like that, it's ALL about rectifying the situation as a consumer. If you aren't interested in making it right why even waste your time replying? Unless, of course, you value a good kiss-up more than you do truth in advertising.

"p.s Big SUCK-up Yaself Matthias99 (giggle)" Whatever happened to debasing yourself in private??? :D

Just like a few others here, you want your butt kissed for acting parental and stuck-up. I'm not hear for that.

Just ordered a BFG 6800 GT this morning, hope the PVP works.
I waited forever to find one in stock.

I hope it works for carage. It's an excellecent gamer card, but that doesn't make up for deliberate deception. I'll wait and see what happens with the new driver.

I heard the leaked 70.xx series is really buggy.

Reposting the same issue in a different thread doesn't make it "useful" either, nor does inventing new terminology that nobody here knows about. We are not the BBB, nor are we BFG tech support. There's nothing special about BFG owners that makes your complaint not fit into the official thread already covering this issue.

And I'll post what I feel like, thank you very much. Last I checked it wasn't against the rules to remind people not to post multiple threads about the same topic. I'm not looking for approval from you or anyone else, just trying to keep some minimal level of sanity in the Video forum. :p

You're being silly now, which frankly doesn't surprise me after your initial outburst. By the numbers:

1. I don't care what you think about anything. That makes you a sad case for continuing to offer "advice" that I've already indicated is useless to me.

2. I'll use whatever terminology I damn well please. Your forumboy BS does NOT impress. (see #1 for reinforcement.)

3. You're not responsible for ANYTHING here, whether that be database concerns or bandwidth. As such, you have no authority and are wasting your time trying to pretend you have some. A healthy ego would understand this.

4. Sure, post what you like. But a man would accept a cordial request to leave another person alone. Are you man enough to leave me alone? Or will you continue this self-aggrandisment, even after I've told you that I don't care what you say or think? This is a test, don't fail it.

5. No, you're looking to act like you're my forum-daddy as a way of having status that you don't deserve. I'm not obliged to do ANYTHING you say, son. Understand that and you'll be a better person for it.

6. Now this is REALLY stupid of you. Of course BFG owners are special, TO BFG. Should I seek compensation from Sapphire, ASUS, Diamond, etc., for my malfunctioning card?

Now sir, I've been as nice as I can on this. In the future, until you let some air out of that shirt, please keep your "suggestions" and half-thoughts to yourself. I'm not going to heed a word you say, so why waste your time? Plain enough? I hope so.

I'm staying on BFG's ass until an ultimate decision is made by them wether to give us the finger or not. Tech Report just released this Text
and NVIDIA gave us no indication that they plan to fix the video processor silicon in a newer revision of NV40. I expect they will simply replace NV40 with a newer high-end NV4x GPU and incorporate the fixes at that time, as they've done with the lower-end NV43.
This is unbelievable bullshat.

I can't believe people are still talking about this. nVidia can't say "Okay, 3% of the computing world, we're going to recall all of our video cards and re-issue you $500 replacements at our personal expense", that's just fiscally irresponsible and totally stupid; no CEO is out to lose their company money. Forerunners always eat the bullet on features not working properly, they're essentially public beta testers; how many people complained about the NX bit on the Athlon 64 die not functioning until SP2? Why is this different than that?
If it really annoys you so much, mail me your cards and I'll make sure they're properly disposed of. :D

And nVidia will likely release an NV48-type chip to lead the hardware fleet, since they still haven't announced a 6900-class card... Why does any of this surprise anyone?

Comparing a feature that just required a software update to broken hardware borders on the absurd.

Boo hoo! :brokenheart:

Aw, now this has gone from you being silly to pathetic. People like you always forget that they could have simply shut up in the first place. Isn't it interesting also that your every post just >drips< with the things your wounded ego now accuses ME of? :) Drink some warm milk and take a nap. The world will look brighter when you awaken.

"Whatever. You "win", I guess." :D I wasn't looking for a victory dude. I just want you away from me with your pedantic BS, that's all.

I had a feeling that would be the reply. I have no real retort for that, as I don't know a lot about the PVP unit, but I do know that features not working as advertised is something everybody who jumps immediately on a bandwagon runs the risk of having happen to them. SP2 was touted as the greatest thing for Windows since, well, ever, and there are dozens of threads complaining about programs breaking and computers being fragged by installing it; these people are analogous to 6800 owners who intended to access the PVP unit, since they expected something from a first-generation release that was not necessarily a 100% proven thing. Obviously, SP2 is still without fixes for all the crap it breaks, and the PVP unit can't be fixed (since if I remember correctly, it was a physical problem and not something a BIOS update could reactivate), but in the future the device and program will function as intended (NV43/45) and you'll probably be upgrading in the future anyway.
nVidia made a mistake, no doubt about it, but getting indignant and self-righteous about it isn't going to make nVidia suddenly roll over and pour millions of dollars into refabbing the NV40 core and re-issuing fixed cores to everybody who owns a 6800; at this point, there are far too many 6800s in the world for that to be a viable option.

Edit: The preceding is targeted to DAPUNISHER, not HardWarrior. I don't want to get in the middle of that catfight. ;)

So, because it offends you that I'd dare to be honked at buying a product that doesn't work as advertised, I should bend over, oil up and just take it? That sort of posture may be peaches for you Shinei, but your ?Sure, screw me to save yourself money, please?? attitude is something you should keep private.
