BFG 6800 GT OC - To OC more or NOT?

Recently installed the wonderful BFG 6800 GT OC card.

Things works great, and was wondering if people have had any experience OCing this card further to the speed of the stock Ultra?

Good experience? Bad?

Also, would anyone like to comment on J.Carmack's comments on OCing impact on Doom3, and using a card that is OC'd out of the box? I am going to contact BFG on that one, but wanted to see if anyone had the same thoughts...

Thanks!

Mine runs ultra speeds as though it's the native settings, but I don't think any of us can address the D3 question, we will just have to see what happens when we all start playing it with our overclocked cards.

I having a feeling that Carmack's comments mostly have to do with people that are really pushing their cards. A moddest OC will probably still be fine. Maybe even Ultra levels on the GT's but probably not much further. We'll see Tuesday night though. Of course I could be wrong and will have to play at lowly stock settings oh no!!! I think a stock GT will be more than enough. I mean the game can be played at 1600 x8 AF no problem anyways with a GT.

Are you guys calling me a whiner?! 🙂

Just heard back from lightning fast BFG support to the Carmack comment...

This is not going to be a problem for any of the cards that come OC'd stock, it will be a more apparent problem for those that overclock their cards aftermarket.

Well, looks like we are going to have to watch how guinea pigs fare.

I'm really curious how the people do that have been flashing their GT's to ULTRA's. Seems like its asking for trouble.

they're not flashing, just a plain overclock. nvidia's cards will automatically drop voltage if the core gets too hot, its pretty hard to burn out a 6800

It's the best thing owning nvidia 6800 gt. core is identical. flashing bios puts the temp setpoint for throttle higher. the ultra bios will provide higher voltage for better stability and feedback to fan to spin faster for better cooling.

and makes easier on coolbits coz default button will set it to ultra instead of adjusting the sliders.

The Bios flash ups the voltage I believe. Off the top of my head somone on Hardforum had flashed his GT and his 3DMark03 score was only 1,000 points higher than my 6800 GT with a pretty mild but past Ultral level overclock.

I dont have an OC card, but a regular 6800GT
1. What program can I oc with
2. What speeds are the OC setting stocked at?

Hey guys, whats the max temp you guys are getting after OC'ing your GT's. I am just wondering what a safe harbor is for a temp. I am overclocking and wondering how high I should push it.

120c seems pretty dang hot for a threshold, since that's 258 degrees Fahrenheit!!

SO whats the highest temp and/or clock speeds everyone here is going with for a 6800GT, just curious.

Mine's running at 410/1130 and highest temp. I've seen on my card is 76 I believe. Idle is around 60-63. I was playing america Operation (AA) at 1280x1024 at ultrahigh details. I'll try far cry tonight and let you know.

LEt me know how things go with Doom3, Shad0hawK.

You use coolbits? What is your clock setting?

Cheers!

You don't have to o/c a GT. It's way more than fast enough stock.
Wanting to is entirely different. It means your more interested in benchmarking than the games themselves. I never understood that, but to each his own.
