BFG 6600GT OC vs BFG 6800 OC

I just picked up a 6600GT OC from fry's sicne I was there getting a new power supply for my case for $249.99. I noticed only the PCIe versions had 256 megs of memory on them(Strange). But anyway, I guess my question is... I was just looking online and I found a 6800OC from outpost.com for the exact same price as the 6600GT I just got. I'm hearing that the 6800s are better... for the price, should I go return this 6600? Also, can someone point me towards a refrence to the softmod I've been hearing about for the 6800s? Thanks

They're both AGPs. Problem i've run in to is tha tmost places are totally sold out of the 6800. I'm hearing the 6600 has better picture quality for some reason, the ram is faster on it, and its NV43 instead of NV40 which means it doesnt have the flaw in the silicon(evidently) tha tthe 6800s have. The thing is, the 6800 defaults with 12 pipelines and has the POSSIBILITY of unlocking 16, whereas the 6600s are stuck at 8. Not to mention the 6800s are 256-bit instead of 128-bit. I found a 6800 at compusa for $200 but its sold out and no idea when they'll have more. Ooutpost has the BFG 6800s for $249 but they said their next shipment is only 100 on jan3. So I found it for $279 including shipping. Its just so tempting to open the 6600GT and say "screw it." I just want to make sure I'm getting something that will last me the longest with the best quality. Considerin gwith tax the 6600 is $271, and shipped the 6800 is $279, if it makes a difference... I can be patient.

Look at Best Buy thats where aI got mine. Get the 6800 OC from BFG. Most people are successfull at unlocking the pipes (me included) There is a 10% off printable coupon that you can use. Also BB has a $20 rebate for the card.

er. of you referring to warcraft 3, it won't make that much of a difference, but if your referring to World Of Warcraft..you should be able to tell.

Orion, is their 20 dollar rebate still good, and where did you get the 10% off coupon for BB from? I could not find any on their site.

You pricematched it where? Bestbuy.com had the card listed at 299.99 online, but in the store it was 305.99... not a big deal but kinda annoying. I couldn't find the $20 dollar off coupon, but I managed to get the 10% off. They said at the counter if I could find another non-online place with the card instock for $299.99 they would pricematch it but they won't pricematch bestbuy.com even though they ARE bestbuy. Not a big deal I guess, but that extra 6 bucks sticks in my craw a little. Anyone know of a place with the cards instock for $299.99 that isn't online that I could make them pricematch? None of the local Fry's have any 6800s in stock. Also, I couldn't find the post on the hot deals forum, not sure where the $20 rebate was from, I did find one that ended on 12/9, but not sure if thats what you meant.

I price matched to their instore add price. It makes me mad that they can put the price instore at $305 when the MSRP is $299. If you have a Fry's near by they have it for $299 all the time.

Keep looking every sunday (may be Tuesdays) for the BB adds, I got mine for $269 - 12% (reward zone member) - $20 rebate.

Yeah they told me they will not pricematch Fry's because they put "refurbished" and returned goods on the shelf... WHATEVER! Makes me mad too, thats why I was asking. But I got the 10% off making it a reasonable price. other than outpost.com and the $199 from CompUSA that said they dont have any instock and dont know when they will... this seems like its still the best price at the moment. I've got it and i'll install it I guess. Just hate seeing great deals other people got, lol.

just stuck a bfg 6800 o/c in a new system, its really sweet and don't regret the extra money I paid for it. The only thing I would of got beside it would of been a GT or a vanilla 6800. Anything else is in a different ball game. All 3 will perform pretty much the same, not much real world difference. The 6600 just doesn't have the horses.

FPS over 60 are essentially wasted right now but the 6800 will last you another year so probably at staying above 60 fps on new games. This second 6600 is a better buy.

Its a bang for your buck argument that depends on so many variables that there isn't a true answer just guesses and opnions.

I'd probably go 6800 guessing that the unlocked pipes and small OC will keep the card current much longer. With vid cards you aren't buying so much what you need as to what you might need 6 months from now in most cases.
