BF3, new bottlenecks after patch.

Hello, after Origin recently patched BF3 my PC bottlenecks at my Intel E8500 3.16 Ghz processor. It was running smooth as eggs before the patch, now its unplayable. Any fix or reason for this? I know its the CPU causing the bottleneck. Thanks.

My question is why after the patch there is new lag for my Dual Core E8500? Did they make a change in the way the game was being processed? It wasn't creating nearly as much CPU usage as before, now its topping out.

Are you playing at the exact same graphic settings and resolution?

Lower even, way lower. I used to play 1920 x 1080 auto graphics set on my GTX 260 overclocked. Ran at a nice 35 FPS. I lowered it to 1280 x 720 with low graphics and it still lags hard and my performance monitor showed the CPU absolutely swollen. I know BF3 recommends quad core but come on it ran like butter before. The minimum is dual core processor. What could have they done in the patch to make it bottleneck at my CPU?

Have you looked on Origin/BF3/EA forums to see if it's a widespread issue? I guess it's conceivable that they could have borked something with the patch (Bethesda does this all the time) but I would think it would be pretty widespread.

Just gotta say, me and a buddy planned to play BF3 last night (kids so time is limited), go to start it up, and boom, get hit with a 4 gigabyte patch... A little warning would have been nice! We're not all nerdlingers checking when the next patch is being released! Took hours waiting for that, ended up playing poker and drinking beer, by the time the patch was done we were 5 beer in! Ran out of beer because of the damn patch :(

My brother has the same CPU [overclocked to 4.3ghz tho] and he has small lag spikes now to. I would say its just a buggy patch and it will be fixed. E8500 cpus are high end CPUs compared to what most PC users have, I cant see them not fixing the problem since im sure others are having it worse in BF3 with worse cpus.

EA at it's finest.....

4gb patch? Really? I mean REALLY?

Just goes to show you that game wasn't really ready, and still isn't.....

give it another 2-3 months

I still have a lock up issue when playing on Ultra settings (which I was playing on just fine when game first came out).

Oy, toolboxes, this patch is for the Karkland expansion maps/weapons. So yeah, it's gonna be decent sized.

More than half the patch is Back to Karkand, they've said that already.

Rather do beer and poker over BF3 any day.

E8500 + GTX260 to run BF3? I think we found your problem. I have a hard time believing it ever ran "smooth as eggs" (eggs aren't smooth either).

Dude i ran a e8200 oced at 3.2ghz and a radeon 6750 oced near 6770 levels and didn't upgrade to a 1100t and a gtx570 for sh*t and giggles.

The dual cores get raped in this game so i will call bs on the smooth as egg claims only time it was smooth for me was on the lower number servers and when if i was using like tanks or something.

For the love of god just pop in a respectable dx11 gpu and a q9000 series quad and oc it...don't kid yourself with the dual core i couldn't.

I never really had any problems running this game, even on my old duel core. I would get screens flashes that were so fast you almost didnt notice them and that was about it. It weird how different people get different experiences running games.

Sounds like you would need more system ram and faster hard drive or SSD for the patch to work more effectively. It may have more stuff to load while playing game.

The game for me would run ok but at 1600x1200 medium,if i was in close combat i would usually lose out cause it would lag putting me at a disavantage.

I was still able to rock with the rig just when i could use the extra performance did it only put me at a disadvantage.

I would miss people at 10 feet with a 870 cause the game would stutter and lag and thats where it goes from playable to downright desperate.

Running msi with the gpu usage posting in the top left corner my oced radeon 6750 was sitting around 80% usage alot of times and dropping settings didn't do much of anything to gameplay.

Get over yourself. The game ran fine on the E8500. YouTube "Battlefield 3 E8500" and you'll see multiple games running fine. Oh and I would love to just pop a couple hundred dollars to get a game that was working completely fine one night to work the next.

I bet most of those e8500 chips got clocked to 4ghz did they not?

Something my e8200 couldn't do if its life depended on it...i found the game scaled well with high ocing and my chip wouldn't go pass 3.6hz period and such a clock no matter what i did was not stable...

Second part of that comment would insult many 2500k owners and possibly the ones getting cards like the 6970 to play ultra...that was low sad and pathetic.

Third your level of playable is different from mine...maybe you can accept some 1600x1200 medium action with 55 average with huge dips....while others want ultra 1080p with smooth overall gameplay.

Perhaps we can all run some e8500 chips with a gtx260 and at the same time you can call us all stupid cause our previous rigs played it before but we all decided we wanted it to play better....

Edit:campaign was the only part of the game the dual cores are smooth in...

This post proves my prior post towards your flame...35pfs isn't all that great period you got a dx10 card with less then 1gb of memory...that's forcing low to maybe medium settings with your 35fps...

Your lucky to pull that with your gtx260....

I can play 1680x1050 with 30+ FPS on a Celeron G530 and a GTX240 :whiste:

That processor must be killer...wow.

I did get 1600x1200 medium with my e8200 and radeon 6750 with 50-55 average but it dipped so much and some maps depending on what happened made it unplayable for me.

Whats playing a bigger part for your rig you think the celeron g530 or the gt240 for those numbers?:)

I had the same CPU (e8500) overclocked to 3.80 with OC ATI HD5870, the game was barely playable, lagging and stuttering i was getting 25-40FPS @ 1920 x 1200 on medium settings, bigger outdoor maps tax your CPU so dont waiste your time and upgrade your CPU/Mobo. I upgraded to i5-2500k and now getting 40-60FPS on high settings. Run task manager during the game and i bet you will see both cores maxed out @ 100%. I originally tought my Video card was the bottleneck but it was the CPU. You absolutely need a quad core to run this game smootly.

Yes, my processor is maxed out at 100% This started occurring after the patch. I went from average 30-35 fps to 2 to 5 fps. I have perf logs before and after patch. The changed amount of CPU utilization was astounding. My original post was asking if there was any changes to the software that could have caused these new performance issues. I know my gear is dated. I don't see a answer except to just buy more stuff. Thanks for your help.

Have you tried uninstalling the game and reinstalling?

Sounds like software related if you had decent frames before and after patch just went to unplayable.
