BF3 Keeps crashing

no i thought it was the the ram at first because i was only using 2gbs. Now mind you im on a 32 bit system. so today i ran out and picked up a 4 gb stick and replace the 2gb stick with it. started running fine then it starts crashes again so i then reinstall it on another hard drive but its the same thing. Just a few moment ago i get an error based on my 5770 running out of memory. So i changed all the settings down to low then changed the rez to 1600x900 and i soon as i moved it crashed.. is this an amd driver issue? because thats all i can think of..

Disable aero,i found it helps cut back on the vram usage, what settings you using on the 6770 at 1600x900?

I doubt BF3 is using that much vram at 1600x900,i got a 4 year old 8800gts 512mb card that runs BF3 just fine on 1600x900 medium with post aa on low while staying under the 490mb mark...

Is it crashing to the desktop and/or giving you "driver stopped responding" messages? If so you need to increase your GPU core voltage by 5-10%.

Check your event logs for errors. Any other games do the same? Overnight I would run some burn-in/stress software to test the hardware (memory, CPU, GPU). If everything passes in the morning, I would look at your GPU's driver. Check the BF3 / Anadtech forums for recommended driver version for your card and start testing.

Or you could just skip to the VGA driver and update that right away. (Sorry sometimes I go overboard...)

BTW, consider migrating to a 64bit OS down the line.

Its just freezing so ive got to ctrl del out. Its happens alot but just before I got entire game in. I got an error about memory on my card but I havent seen that in a day or two. I hoping its the drivers but I just need a few weeks of play before upgrading. I plain on going 64 bit like you said but ive got to pick up a new gpu and psu at the same time which will be very shortly. Just waiting on the 600 series but by then ill end up having enough money for the 680 so.

Maybe it's a hint to not play the crappy game? 😉

Jk, anyways I'd try fumbling around with the video card drivers. Older, newer, while staying within the post-release timeframe of the game. ATI were never known for their stable/perfect drivers.

BF3 Textures actually take up a ton of video card memory and less than 1.5GB will have errors running high/ultra on some systems. You mentioned you had the same problem on low, however, so that's likely not the problem. If you download a program called BF3 settings editor by Realmware, it will allow you to modify the config file for different video settings like turning off DX 11 and other options that might help.

Are you monitoring your temps before, during, and after gameplay? Sometimes this is caused by something as simple as inadequate cooling that leads to overheating. Does this every happen right away or do you usually play for a bit before it happens?

Lots of good places to start in this thread so I will wish you good luck and lend my sympathy because we have almost all been there.
