Well I have been playing BF3 and love it and I have found the best graphics and performance for my PC which is everything High at 1680x1050(med shadows) 2xAA and 16xAF I get about 65-85 all the time for the most part but at random times(their could be 100 gun fights going on or I can be looking at the ground with nothing going on) my game will pretty much randomly freeze(fps will drop to 1FPS according to fraps).

I have installed the newest drivers for AMD 11.10(which might honestly be the problem cause I dont remember having it before these drivers) and made sure nothing is overheating and nothing is overclocked. So does anyone know what the problem may be or maybe its just the game being buggy? I'm gonna re install it just to make sure as its the only game to do this.

My main specs are:
AMD PII 940(quad core) at 3.0GHz
4GBDDR RAM
ATI radeon HD 5870 1GB
Corsair 750WATT
CoolerMaster HAF

The game is a pile of crap till they patch and fix it.....

About as blunt as i will put it oh wow the game has shiny graphics...oh look a quarter!

Your specs are plenty fine for the game and i have the same issues as you but sometimes performance is fine it doesn't know if it wants to run like crap or run fine at times .

I played it on a friends x2 555 and a 8800gts and on the first day it looked like crap but played just fine....now i'm playing it on a 3.6ghzs e8200 and a gtx560 and it plays worst...go figure.

Well yea the game does run good for me though besides the 15 times in a match it desides to drop to 1FPS for no reason, at release it all seemed good and I played at 1920x1080 but I care more about FPS then looks so I went down(and yes if I go back to 1920 it still freezes, skips, stutters, etc)but now it stinks. Also to add it doesnt matter if I change settings to all low in game cause the same thing happens

I'm running my gtx560 at 1600x1200 and when it runs good its not that bad on the oc on the cpu...but when my fps are good it still sorta stutters..

Game needs a serious patch i officially uninstalled it cause its caused a lot of frustration for me.

Not recommending you do the same but till a good patch or update comes out the game is unpredictable.

Not hating on the game trust me all i could talk about this game since april i drove everyone crazy about it and well now i will wait on a patch .

Hmm. Or ram? Or 32 bit vs. 64 bit windows? Lots of potential problems here.

Fresh install windows 7 64 bit 4gb ram when the game is open just the essentials to run it and fraps and afterburner nothing else open to hamper performance...seems server dependent if it will run good or not...

If the game simply needs more ram then Ea as a company is responsible for writing a apology letter cause their specs recommend 4gb.....

Oh latest 285.62 drivers too as for Op hope he figured out his issue.

I too have 4gb of ram and a 5870 and I seriously think I'm running out of system memory with the game running. I've even gotten low memory warnings from windows a few times. Another thing could possibly be your hard drive? Mayhaps your HD is having trouble streaming the textures.

I installed another 4GB of RAM for a total of 8 on Thursday and my huge fps drops totally disappeared. Plus new maps/rounds load infinitely quicker as well. Ultra settings on larger maps with lots going on seems to need more than 4.

If it was a HD wouldnt it affect all games then and not just BF3?, also I am almost done re-installing so maybe that will work

Well Ea has some splaining to do to Lucy then huh?

4gb ram recommended my ass and oh gtx560 is also recommended but for ultra you need more then a 1gb card good times for the hardware companies :awe:

Most gamer's buy this game and will follow recommended specs but if they filled a 2 ram slot of their mobo with 2gb each and find out they wasted their money cause the game makes better use of 8gb that's bullsh*t .

I know Ea wants to sell this game so they make it look like you need a mild gaming box but for ultra you need a 2gb card and 8gb ram they have splaining to do .

To run it on Ultra you need more. Most games, to run on the highest everything you'll need more than the recommend requirements have always said. Nothing new.

Q6600 at 3.6ghz, 4GB, Win7, Gtx 275, latest WHQL drivers - Game runs flawless.

I also just moved it to my SSD - loading times are *greatly* reduced now.

Why do you think it's called "Ultra"? Simple: Then don't run in Ultra.

Explain to me why i am running flawless (means: No stutters whatsoever, no freezes etc...) on my old 4GB machine? It certainly is not the system memory..and if you say it requires 8GB ram this is simply not true.

The game on the back of the box should have made some sort of note for those wanting the best possible experience grab a 2gb radeon 6950 or 2gb gtx560 or higher..but no recommended was for 1gb...not 2gb .

That wouldn't have been much to ask no?

Me i dived in knowing i couldn't run ultra that's fine but their recommended gpu should be revised on the box...or at least note ultra requires a 2gb variant of the recommended.

I think this might have to do with individual configurations. I've seen some 64-bit windows installs that still 'reserve' memory for GPU addressing, which is odd to me, but whatever.

Details :

If the borderline area is close to 4gb needed for windows + background services/origin + BF3, then any combination of minor to moderate memory usage things might knock it over the edge where it starts paging.

Yeah I think on the safe side you are right, best results should be recommended :

PhIIBE or i5/i7 Quad @ 3.2ghz or higher
GTX560 or 6950 2GB or higher with latest video drivers
6GB Ram or higher (this is a common memory size for socket 1366 setups anyway)
64-Bit Windows 7 (possibly Vista with SP2 and all updates)
Disable MSAA because it's broken with the engine, makes things look worse, slows things down

that should be the cliffs on the game for highest details to work well at 1080p and 1200p. No idea how well the 560 and 6950 would hold up with crazy resolutions like 2560x1600, probably need at least a 6990/580/590 or so for a good experience there.

I have occasionally gotten messages that I was running out of memory on my 8GB machine in while playing BF3. Win7 automatically disabled the aero theme each time to compensate...etc.

I don't get it often, but definitely a few times.

Can't forget a ssd some people are claiming dramatic load time improvements and i believe them when you load on a mechanical you hear it thrashing like crazy.

I've got a 1.5TB WD Black, and it loads fast and isn't loud. It's not a high end drive like a raptor or SSD or anything. Of course the SSD will be faster, but BF3 loads maps about like BC2 did, for that matter it's faster than the top-end PC I built way back in the BF2 days, and that had raid 146gb 10k rpm SCSI drives on a dual-channel UW320 controller lol :)

Haven't used a raptor in a few years and my last ssd was rather cheap and small but found the 64gb size sorta small...didn't help load my other games that fast but perhaps for BF3 i will grab another one in sata 6 flavor.

Using a seagate 1.5tb here myself perhaps its a older 3x500gb platter model or something and not all that quiet...aren't some of the newer 1tb drives just single platter drives?

I think my long loading times are due to AMD drivers and not my Raid 0.

Friend gave me this drive but looking up the model reveals a 3 year old 4 platter design with a 97mbps average read and 15.4 ms which i just verified...there's my slow loading time right there :awe:

Still love the space but 15.4 ms seek is terrible what kinda seek times are modern 1tb drives hosting?
