BF3 DLC's to be released on PS3 a week earlier than other platforms

DICE has struck a deal with Sony to make all "full-blown upcoming expansion packs" for Battlefield 3 timed PS3 exclusives, though the exclusivity period will be just one week, as opposed to the approximate month-long headstart Xbox 360 users get on DLC for Call of Duty. Tommy Rydling, Junior Product Manager at DICE, made the announcement on PlayStation Blog: "But that’s not all for our PlayStation fans! You’ll be happy to know that beginning with our first expansion pack Battlefield 3: Back to Karkand (to be released later this year), all full-blown upcoming expansion packs for the game will appear one week early exclusively on PS3, brought to you by Sony!" >expansion pack

Yeah right. EA's crappy DLC doesn't deserve the title of 'expansion pack'.

If it's not included in the game I couldn't care less. I pay $60 for a game and that's all I'll pay.

While I am not generally excited about DLC's (usually I forgo it), I do think that this is a direct poke at the microsoft/activision deal with the CoD series.

Would this really influence someone to buy it for one system over another?

Good question, but IMO better questions:

Who owns both 360 and PS3?
If someone has a PC capable of running BF3 and one or both consoles, why would they buy for a console and not the PC then?

Exclusives are there to make owners of the platform getting preference feel better about their purchase, no more.

Unless mommy and daddy are rich (or deep in debt) and will buy timmy a PS3 because he can't wait 7 days to get it on his 360.

I have all three and have not yet decided on which one to get the game. Having the same dilemma for Rage and Skyrim.

People will buy it on a console over a PC to play it with their friends. which is exactly why i am getting it on the PS3. All my friends own PS3s, only 1 of them has a xbox (he also has a ps3) and not a single one of them has a PC that could play the game. Hell most of them prob dont have a PC with enough HDD space to even install it

however im also buying it on the PC. to play with AT peeps and to bask in the eye candy

And that makes sense - playing with friends def makes sense, and I didn't mention that question because I assume it to be true, and where your friends are precludes you from even considering changing consoles just because it's available somewhere else first, right? If your friends are on XBox, you won't abandon them just to get DLC sooner.

As for KentState, if your PC a good gaming PC? If so, why is there even a choice to be made? Serious question - when I have the choice between PC and XBox, I usually go for the PC. I've poured money into making it a good gaming PC and as such will use it. If it's an XBox only title, or if friends are on the XBox, I'll get it there...but that's it for me.

I find it interesting that they struck a deal w/ such a short exclusive window. I mean a month, or more in some cases, that you see makes a bit of sense because you're saying to consumers "if you want the full experience each time you need to wait months if you choose the other system" but a 7 day period makes little sense to me.

It's all about being able to say it, though, in the end. It's word of mouth.

I'm guessing because EA knows that would be shooting themselves in the foot. Didn't BC2 sell best on the PC?

Doubtful. Console games tend to outsell PC games big time, and I'm sure it sold the most on the XB360.

XB360 and PS3 users are always fighting about who's is better so anytime a cross platform game can get any type of exclusivity window they take it so they can be "first!"

I'd say PC for them all, BF3 and Rage simply cause they are FPS and BF3 will be played for a much longer time with a larger community then either of the consoles. Skyrim PC with no doubt at all, one reason, mods. Mods make elder scroll games soooo much better, and I don't know if Rage is going to have mod tools or not, if they are another reason for the PC version.

Correct, getting the DLC first is a non factor for me ane the people i play games with. actually getting it 2nd is a benefit because you know in advance if its even worth purchasing or not

we all got Blops on the PS3 because only 2 of us have xboxes, the DLC did not factor into it, prettys ure all of us only got the 1st DLC and none of the other 2 or 3

Huh? It's no question whatsoever. PC. Rage, Battlefield 3, and Skyrum should be played on a PC.

I just struggle getting into games on the PC. I originally purchased Oblivion for the PC and only put in about 5 hours. A year later I picked it up for the Xbox and spent around 70 hours.
