I've been getting this error since i re-installed this game (3 days ago!)
ERROR

now, i've manually updated punkbuster, and have stress tested my cpu and memory for 37 hours with a problem (sp2004), and reinstalled the game twice...

the only thing i can possibly think of is, my 64bit O/S (xp pro x64)
but before i had to reformat my computer, and reinstalled BF2- i would never get this issue (also on 64 bit O/S)

what the hell is going on here?!

Don't know if they did this for BF2 but for BF2142 they moved to a windows service based punkbuster (2 executables that stay running). I kept getting kicked by PB until I realized my firewall was blocking the new services.

well, it says corrupted file/memory. is there a way to download and install PB just for that game or can you borrow a BF2 disc from a friend to try to reinstall PB that way?

Yeah, it's a shame there are punks ;). Manual updating always solved the occasional connection problems for me, but given that error I think I would look for a procedure to completely remove/reinstall it.

See if theres a repair option under the add/remove programs bit, if not then reinstall it as mentioned above.

Personally its this message that always gets me :(

Don't use a No-CD/DVD crack and you won't have this problem. (Seriously)

(Edit) I should mention that the only reason I say this is because a good friend of mine installed BF2 at work to show it off to me, it worked fine single player, he went to multiplayer, and would get that exact error after a few minutes of playing and get kicked. After restoring the original EXE's, he was able to play without issue.

before I uninstalled BF2 i used daemon tools and had a mini-image loaded so I would not have to use the BF2 disk. worked fine, never had a problem.

I probably have it on my computer at home still... welll, MAYBE.

I actually thought about re-installing BF2 on my new computer. Do many people still play it?

jI'll only play if they haven't reset my account :) I had probably around 400 hours worth of playing. I really loved that game despite some of the problems and the fact that people played strike at karkand 99% of the time.

Oooh, busted! :D

In any event... I can say that it does indeed work with Daemon Tools and a mini-image just fine.
