Not trying to ramble, but another thing I thought could be improved (maybe it is with BF2) is that aircraft controls were very difficult to learn & master in BF1942. This resulted in players who could pilot aircraft & those who couldn't, however that didnt' stop anyone from trying.

This results in players who dont know how to pilot an aircraft Trying to learn during a game while those who know how, trying to acquire an aircraft to pilot.

I would be really nice if they simplied the controls for playability. For instance a graduated throttle level for airplanes (1-9 keys like in JANES flight sims) so you dont have to continually press a button repeatedly to stay in the air.

For helicopters it would be nice if you could use a key to increase altitude & then the vehicle would maintain the resultant altitude once the button is no longer pressed (like wise for decreasing altitude). Then have the WASD keys used for lateral movement of the helicopter. The mouse would then be used for nose direction (cross-hairs/targeting) like a FPS on the ground.

Either make flight controls easier to learn & control or have some kind of limitation on who can fly aircraft. (Like a "flight hours" requirement in single player)

But, like I said they may have already addressed these issues in BF2 (I've never played it)

Definately, as i said i like BF2 better, but the aircraft units could use better controls. The BEST helicopter control ive ever used has been in an unknown game callec "giants citizen kabuto" as the controls in that were EASY! The helicopter was less manuverable due to the easy controls in that but still good.

The reaso why i ordere d a joystick.

PS sorry about speelling or anything im a bit pissed posting this 😀 wheee! yay 4 carling!! 😀

BF2 by far! Although now that I have a new system, I can't wait to see the Source engine in 1600 x 1200 with all settings cranked up 🙂 Oh, DOD:S should be out soon too, will definitely check that out.

Players can practice flying on a server by themselves....

I can understand how this system would be helpful for jets, but it would suck for hellicopters. The current system is the best way to do the hellicopter. It limits the chopper to somewhat realistic movement, IE you cannot just fly around shooting everything on the ground without inevitably flying towards the ground and hitting something. This forces players to have to actually fly and plan out their attack patterns. If choppers could fly around aiming at the ground then they would be invincible.

It just seemed too unreal to get headshots with the sniper rifle while running and jumping. Some of you call it "skill", maybe its skill within the game, but real snippers don't play jumprope and make 3-6 headshots.

I agree completely. In BF2, when you see a sniper, he is usually actually sniping. You will find them hiding in trees or ontop of an oilrig. I've seen some real good snipers that I simply couldn't find. You know the rush when 90% of your health dissapears and the red indicator didn't help you so you just start running for cover. Good snipers in BF2 just makes CS feel like a freaking joke in comparison. In BF2 a sniper wins by cover, In CS a sniper wins by simply standing there and taking out every single person who crosses a doorway. Snipers in CS are often sniping from extremely close ranges in comparison and are never really relying on cover.

Good point guys, i also thought that BF2 snipers were more realistic as i found myself running for cover and hiding quite a few times due to a sniper. I usually just call in artillery and hope he gets hit. If not then ill run away.

skace,

That's true that with the control setup i discribed it would make helicopters really capable, however if they also include the "heat seeking anti-aircraft missile" I suggested too then this would be a non issue 😀

Then helicopter pilots would have to use trees & buildings for cover, just like how Apache helicopter pop up from the tree line to fire.

Well, I guess I just like the way it is now because I am one of the better chopper pilots and I enjoy the challenge. The team appreciates me being able to fly the chopper the way I can as it benefits them also. Also, the anti-aircraft already available on the map is plenty enough to take choppers out, the only problem is the jets that are nearly impossible to hit. Infact, anytime a chopper hovers, they take a chance of being 1-shotted by a tow, or 2 shotted by AA/Tanks/AT Kits. The current setup makes the chopper very dangerous yet very rewarding, which is exactly while I like it.

skace,

That's a good point & I too recognized & appreciated a good helicopter pilot especially being a gunner or transported.

Unfortunately, nothing would stop unqualified pilots from flying 😛 They would end up killing anyone onboard.

I prefer CSS because BF2 doesn't support my video card.

Although BF2 sounds like its way to buggy for me to consider buying at this point anyway, so thats a moot point really. By the time they unfvck it up I'll probably have a good enough video card to play.

Its funny somtimes though 😀 I laughed so frickin hard when this chopper with 5 guys on the carrier tried to take off, veered off to the side and smacked into somone trying to get away in the attack helicopter 😀 They all died lol. Then the guy in the AA gun went crazy and killed everyone.... good times.

But i do think that you should change the terms "unqualified" and "qualified" to "people without a joystick" and "people with a joystick" Sure you can fly with mouse and keyboard but dont expect to win any dogfights against somone with a joystick :frown:

LOL > Soviet,

I have a vivid memory of jumping on a black hawk (Desert Mod) with 4 passengers (of course only the front passenger has a seat) and the pilot lifts off and starts rolling foward to the point all of us in the back start sliding forward (I looked out the side window to see the ground) & the pilot did a forward flip right into the ground. Killed everyone but the front passenger who bailed.

The funny thing was that I could see from the windows that we were going over but since I couldn't over come gravity to reach the exit I couldn't bail. I looked over at the pilot to see if he'd bail but he drove it all the way in!!

It was hillarious. Same for the AC-130 if the pilot was circling a target & I spawn inside and have to fight the orientation of the aircraft (in relation to gravity) and everyone on the plane realizes that it's being shot out of the sky so they're all climbing over each other trying to run out the tail, LOL.

One things for sure...I had a couple good laughs from BF1942.

I prefer CS to BF1942 because with server size of about 20-30 people you can develope some kind of team play while on a server, where as when you are playing BF1942 with 64 people everyone is doing they're own thing and it doesnt really make me feel involved in the game.

There are a couple reasons for this I believe map size, number of players, respawn times, spawn locations, damage superiority, etc.

I always hated the fact that I had to wait to respawn & then when I did some guy in a helicopter blasted me back to respawning at the same location 😛 (thats just dumb).

(snip)

WOW! I played BF1942 a lot, but I really don't recall any helicopters in BF1942.

Which map had the helicopters?

Actually, Raid on Aghelia had a helicopter. (one of those early prototypes)

The only reason I buy the BF series is for the extensive mod support. MAn, I had a blast with Forgotten Hope (the way BF1942 was meant to be), Desert Combat, Desert Combat Realism, Galactic Conquest (Star Wars mod), Pirates, Wasteland 2042, Dead Cities, Conflict in Somalia, Silent Heroes, Black Hawk Down. Those are for BF1942 alone

Then you have Point of Existence for BF:Vietnam.

But now since EA/DICE won't freaking release the mod tools for BF2, these awesome mods scheduled for release on the BF2 engine (Forgotten Hope 2, PoE 2) are being drastically delayed.

I don't buy the BF series for the vanilla version, just the mods.

BTW, BF series owns CS.

Are you kidding me? That would suck as a flight control layout. Flying choppers is not hard, it just takes a little practice...(I learned way back when DC had choppers in 2002)

I've tried many times, before I lost interest. I found that I could control the helicopter if I only provided very minium input but once it started to roll in one direction any conpensation to correct the movement would result in over compensation and send the aircraft into an unrecoverable & usually catastrophic decent.

Then again I never tried with a joystick, maybe that's the holy grail of the helicopter. 😛

Ooh 50/50 right as of this post. (31/31). I like CSS better, though I only like it when there is actualy TEAMWORK.

CS.
It runs a heck of a lot smoother and you can play with lots of BOTS. Am not a fan of any online gaming. Even Guild Wars ticks me off because you have to be online to play a game that is essentially single player.

You can play BF2 with bots...

not essentially single player. its impossible to beat the game iwth just bots. the ai gets amazingly stupid.

I fly the chopper with a mouse...infact I swear by it 🙂. Enemy choppers don't even come up against me anymore, especially when I have my preferred gunner. Said gunner took 2 attack choppers out of the sky back to back (literally, both attack choppers were attacking us at the same time). It was that map where the USMC starts with 2 attack choppers on their AC. He took one out with a guided missile, and then we circle strafed the second chopper and he hit him dead on with a guided missile. I screamed like a little girl.
