I was thinking about picking it up pretty cheap. Do people still play online?

EDIT: Wrong forum, meant to be in PC gaming.

I personally haven't played in like 2 years but I saw some other AT members talking about how they still play it all the time in a thread last week. I figured it would have "dried up" by now, but I guess not. Check out www.bf2s.com to see stats and active players, etc.

Eff'n A it's still popular. Thousands of people at any day or time.
And there will be a big bump whenever they release the new 1.5 patch, which at latest report will be released as a beta at the end of this month.

Edit: Live count... Game-monitor.com

Still has more online players than the average game. There still hasn't been a proper sequel IMO and I think thats why people still play it.

It's definitely still popular, with my servers filters I still see more than 300 populated servers, many of them having more than 20 players, and even in night time when most people sleep there's still a good hundred populated servers, and that's only counting Punkbuster-protected ones from my filters.

The bulk of players are still playing "vanilla" BF2, with no mods.
Most mods rise and fall in popularity with each version release.

That said, Project Reality has maintained it's popularity better than most.
Also, the official EA mod Special Forces hangs in there well, but you have to pay for it.

Other mods I have enjoyed that might not have too many players at the moment: AIX 2, POE 2.5, Desert Conflict X (was popular for it's Capture the flag game mode)

Plenty of idiots still running around from what I've witnessed over the past two days.

(although this is a hack, it's unofficially approved by punkbuster)

(and don't believe that +sxy + sxz or w/e is a widescreen hack, because it just stretches your view and chops off the top, it doesn't actually change your fov.

No, it's fine on Vista 64, but you may have to run the manual PB update from evenbalance.com

My game recently started crashing to desktop, I think I need to re-install.

Thanks for the heads up I'll try the manual punkbuster afte EA free's up my account with all of my kits unlocked. The either hangs or CTD whenever I try to load that account. The nickname and password are accurate it just won't load so I requested some assistance from EA they asked for everything from short of my first born even though all of the games are registered online with them.

Yeah the manual updater is nice.. just doesnt work with win7. I'm sure it would have been smart to dual boot so i could play PB enforced games but meh...

Ill be playing BF2 when MS releases win7, then PB would support it (hopefully)

I thought I was going to have to install BF2 on my XP boot, as I am still running a dual boot system with my Vista 64 system. I rarely use XP be it comes in handy sometimes so it there more as a safety net when I'm at a LAN Party so I don't miss out because not everyone is running Vista 64
