I was just noticing that BF2 demo wasnt running real smoothly in certain parts, I currently have 2Gb of ram, a GeForce 6800gt, and a Athlon XP 2800+, im averaging about 25-30fps here, 1280x1024 with 4x AA, so im pretty sure it's the cpu holding me back, anyone have any idea how much better it will be once i upgrade my cpu to a mid to low end athlon64. Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated thanks!

I doubt you will see much of a performance increase; however, those numbers seem really low. I am running BF2 on a 9800 pro at 1600x1200 with 2x AA with a mixture of medium/high detail settings with a steady 30 fps. I doubt your CPU is hindering performance that much, but I could be wrong.

tagged for knowledge ;)

wish i could help you out but my 9800pro lets me only play @ 800x600 with most on high, no shadows and 2AA and it actually looks decent...and i get 30-99fps depending on scene.

when you exit out of the game, what is your total ram usage?

if you look at ase, looks like some people already have the retail version, and not the ea servers....

It has been well over 600 MB at certain times.

only 600? maybe i will crank mine up. i hate to be a pain in the a$$, but could you tell me which ones you have on high/medium since yours works... i will send you a screen shot and you could just mark the ones on high and i will put the others on medium....

hmmm....I have an a64 3500+ @ 2.4 / 1G RAM 2-2-2-5 / and a 6800gt @ 430/1170. I bf2 at 1152x864 (there is no 1280x1024, not on my demo atleast) and get average 68-70 w/ FRAPS all settings on high, no AA or AF and v-sync ON (same FPS's w/ it off as well). I would venture to say your framerates would increase noticeably with an a64 around 2.4 or above. Just a guess. Is your 6800gt oc'd?

I have everything set to medium, except for textures, geometry, and lighting which are all high. Then I am using 2x AA with 100% draw distance.

heh i bought 2gb of ram so that's not an issue, this is on maps with 40 players or more, all settings on high, turning on and off AA made no difference. My 6800gt is running stock, never OC'ed, been too fast to bother lol.

I am finding BF2 demo kind of choppy on SLI rig as well.
I just sold my CPU and RMA my Ram and I am using some cheaper stuff from gf's rig for now,
maybe that's why.
