OK, so most games I play, I'm in the top 3 in kills, but ALSO I'm in the top 3 in deaths usually. It's pissing me off...and here's the problem, it's NOT from other foot soldiers/vehicles...My kill/death ratio is close to 8:1 vs other foot soldiers when I track it. roughly 80% of my deaths are from mortar strikes or air strikes...how do you guys avoid this problem?? I tried spawning at other bases NEAR bases that are under seige, but that doesn't seem to work either...then air strikes just get me. it's really starting to piss me off

Best tip i can give is avoid being near large packs of teammates. A commander isnt going to call in an airstrike just to kill one individual. As for Helicopters, turn up your speakers/headphones or wtv, and listen, trust me its very easy to hear a heli hovering near you. Sames goes for jets, you can usually hear them blaze towards you, but if there dropping a bomb chances are youre good as dead, tip for this would to stay away from main roads and again away from large concentrations of teammates, especially in large battles. If your in a vehicle learn to take paths off road and away from main streets, if you must then travel quickly and get out, dont stall in one area too long. Tanks are just asking to be blown up....but thats a trade for having utter dominance for a few minutes at a base. Also joining a squad could help as they may warn you about incoming vehicles, this may not help as much as the tips ive listed above but they all keep me from dying alot.

u cant do much about arty strikes, except that commanders will prob arty a flag about to be capped by the enemy. So, if you cap a flag, be prepared to run like hell. A good commander would also tell their team when the other team's arty is goin up - so if you're in a large pack u all better spread out.

also if for example ur sitting in the mounted gun of a vehicle, and u see a jet coming - or know that one is making strafe runs at u... GET OUT. Remember that the jets will easily target your vehicles if you're in it. Once the jet passes, hop back in the vehicle.

Yeah, air strikes piss me off. I guess artillery doesn't bother me as much because I can at least stand a chance there... Some people are really good in planes. The odd thing is, with all the hours I have put in, I have hardly ever tried to fly a plane. It is about time I dish out some air strikes instead of only being on the receiving end of it... grrr

Or download a few hacks and you will get a quick positive kill ratio. As for me, I can maintain a postitive kill ratio most of the time (I do have a bad day or two). It's all about thinking on your feet and coming up with new untried ways to surprise your foe.

Artillery is just completely lame. I really wish they toned it down. THe mortars in Joint Ops for example, are the same type of bombardment but not excessive and don't happen automatically every couple minutes. I don't know how often they recharged in BF2 but it seems way too often.

The planes and helicopters are lame too. There's almost nothing you can do against them. I play SF almost exclusively to get rid of retarded crap like that and keep it down to infantry battles, but in maps like Ghost Town, there's still attack choppers spawning WAY too often. There's almost no AA in Ghost Town. I sit on top buildings as anti-tank but it takes a very good aim and tons of luck to hit them with anti-tank shots, plus it takes at least a couple and in the time you are reloading they will just fly away and repair it or grab a new one since they spawn constantly.

They really need to make some maps that are infantry only, with the only vehicles being boats and transport type vehicles (maybe an APC or two). Tanks, planes, and choppers just get whored constantly by the same people. There's enough annoying stuff without them even (artillery, claymores).

You need to tune up your artillery and airplane senses. Artillery is easy to recognize... It'll come at cap points and high troop density defense points. The same pretty much goes for airplanes. The trick with good pilots is to get in the vehicle and move when they're flying away. Give then a few seconds and then hop out of your ride. They won't get a lock and you can usually move forward without much issue. It's beneficial to maintain a good space between yourself and your team.

Of course this all assumes a relatively balanced player base. Anytime you get 5+ plane, heli, tank aces on one team you can throw all the rules out. Just try to survive or find another server.

Unfortunetly for you, the game is Battlefield and it features a full range of aspects for war. Planes, tanks, and helos are undoubtly a part of the game. In the next patch they are coming out with a infantry heavy map, so that should be nice.

UGH. I'm uninstalling the game...your suggestions did work, saved me quite a few times, but there's SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO many things wrong with this game. That's why I hate EA...all their games have off the chart potential, but they always settle for half assing it. When I can walk up to someone from behind, unload a 30 shot clip into their head, have them not die, turn around, shoot me in the leg once, and I die...that's enough for me. I can't count how many times that's happened....the hit detection is atrocious in this game. I'm not saying it always favors the other person...I've had plenty of kills where I just fire off one random 3 shot burst, and it will kill them, after I've had them unload a shotgun into me twice in the face from pointblank range. Goodbye EA piece of ******

cone of fire + model animation errors when prone spamming + horrible hit detection make this game bad. Knife fights in this game are the most ridiculous thing ever because you will dust the other guy 4 times before you actuall kill him.

I just ignore everything that goes on in the air. It's not important and has no impact on the rest of the game as played from the ground.

I haven't seen any hit detection as bad you as described in this game especially at point blank range. That's very odd.

I do agree the game can get frustrating sometimes with the arty, LAV spawn rapers, constant nade spamming, slaymores, helos raining down death.. those pretty much sum up my what I get killed by mostly :)

When I first started playing I had a really bad K/D ratio , sub .5 I believe. Then I did some things to improve my survivability. First I played picked the sniper kit and just took my time roaming around picking good spots and laying those slaymores nearby to keep my ass protected and staying away from artillery -- that helped a ton. Second I fell in love with Sharqi Pennisula where armor isn't nearly as deadly as in Karkand but you have to be careful of skilled chopper jocks. I then played medic more especially when MEC where the AK-101 is so deadly.

I still have some really bad games where I can't get anything going but I have more good games than bad games nowadays. I'm not one of these guys who can rack up 100pt games constantly and own everybody... I'm just not that skilled but I have a lot of fun. I pretty much just play sniper and medic now with occasional spec ops and really love the game. My accuracy is only 20% overall but with sniper rifle I'm hovering around 49-51% from week to week. The M-95 and L96A1 are some fun stuff.

That's because you have to be accurate with shotguns. Generally if you miss a shot, you're dead. Not true with most of the other weapons.

I know it just shocked me when i checked because i rarely use shotguns, and most of the time when i have one i usually get slaughtered long distance, but i guess in short i was pretty accurate with it.

if you're up against an awesome pilot, then NEVER NEVER get in a vehicle of any kind. he'll track you down and kill you everytime you get in one.
Never ever be extremely alone by going after an empty base because the enemy commander will spot you, and the pilot will be alerted, killing you.

never ever be w/ a ton of people. That's a given.;

Never ever MOVE when you see a jet nearby. Once you move, you become slightly more visible to pilots, and he'll strafe you down.
Never move when a heli is above you. it's harder to spot a person if you do not move.

once you even hear a jet pass over, take cover ASAP before he gets close enough to see you move. Then it's too late.

ALWAYS ALWAYS spot enemy jets. always make your teammates/cmmder spot enemy jets. not only will it help your team's pilot spot him and kill him, it'll help people on the ground to see if there's a jet nearby that will kill them.

If it's a good pilot, NEVER man the AA's, since he'll make regular rounds taking out every AA on the map. If he's a crappy pilot, and you see that no one has a dominating score on the opposing team w/ a small negative support score (pilots really rack up accidental TKs), then man the AA.

Always LISTEN for heli rotors and jet noises. that will save you from death many times over.

Take my advice, because I fly a lot, and I know what to look for when I want the most kills. I'm not a good pilot, but I've seen other pilots do insaner stuff.

Once you hear artillery firing sounds, make sure that it's from your commander (just chk map). If not, and you're next to a bunch of teammates. take cover ASAP.

also, I've never had a problem w/ hit detection. Your description is obviously flawed, since of course there were times where i'd unload on a person in front of me, and he'll turn around to kill me, but it happens because:

good medics will always have medpacks around them, and heal themselves, turn around, then kill you.

you just missed them horribly, and they landed a timely shot to your head, and not your leg. that's most likely what happened.
