I am not sure about single player games honestly, I'm an online gamer. But BF2 is definitely best for online play.

BF2 wasn't really made to be played ONLY as single player. It's still fun, but quite limited.

Recent single player FPS games of note...

- Farcry
- HalfLife 2
- Republic Commando
- Call of Duty series
- Brothers in Arms
- The Chronicles of Riddick
- No One Lives Forever 2
- Tron 2.0
- Jedi Outcast
- Vietcong

Exactly what I was thinking.... single player sounds extremely boring.

I *almost* resorted to playing single player last night when my cable service went down for a couple hours. oh.. the internet withdrawal, and pain.

Sounds like i'm missing out on online play, is it seriously that good?
Might have to give it a try, sounds a bit addictive, dont think the girlfriend will be happy with me spending hours playing a game. Is it worth the hassle?

Not addictive like a MMORPG....it's pretty easy to turn it off. I haven't played in a week even though I love the game.

But there's just nothing like the challenge and competition that comes from competing against other players.

You need to accept that there will be some humiliation involved early on as you learn the ropes, but I'll take one kill on an intelligent, creativly-thinking player-controlled character than a thousand bot kills. Just think, that player you just took out is just like you with the same desire to kill and not be killed as you but you still managed to out-smart/skill/prepare/luck him.

it's not so addictive to where you can't turn it off and it ruins your relationship with your GF.
It is, however, very easy to spend several hours playing without realizing it, especially when you first start out.

If you are playing on a server with a bunch of idiots, it can be VERY easy to turn it off. If you get lucky and have a good team that plays together, it can be tons of fun.

EDIT: If you get caught up in stats, then you may have a problem. First off, you will NEVER be able to compete in stats with the people who have no life and play 24 hours a day. Secondly, when I have gotten caught up in stats, I have found that i end up pissed off and don't have near as much fun.

ah, so your the noob that decides to learn how to fly the helicopter in multiplayer.

the singleplayer is there for a reason. hone your skills, and then jump on multiplayer to show them off.

I hate having to TK the bastages that keep taking the helicopters and crashing them, it reflects negatively on my score.

Actually, I don't have that problem. Rarely do I crash the choppers, and I haven't played with that many people who could fly them better..... took to it first time I played. And I started on unranked servers either way, so it wouldn't affect stats either. Hardly a noob.....

Neither do i have a problem, i have flown the helo ever since my desertcombat (played ever since .2 alpha) and BF:Vietnam. I am very disappointed that they took all the skill out of helo flying. I wish they had made it the same as in DC.

I too wish there were more skill involved also.... I also wish that on ranked servers there would be some sort of system set up to prevent idiots who can't fly from getting into the choppers, though I know that will never happen.

I would tend to agree with the people here.

BF2 singleplayer is frustratingly bad, though less so than previous games in the BF series. There is no 'storyline' or 'plot' you simply pick a map and play against bots.

Online play is definitely worth it, it's more challenging and realistic as well. You can't really flank bots or sneak up on them and kill them when they don't expect it. Tactics are much more involved when playing with real people. It's not just 'figure out how the programming sucks, then exploit it'.

On the other hand bots will rarely drive over teammates on purpose, or plant C4 on the runway so if you get the jet before them, they can blow you up so the plane will respawn quicker.
