I have the setup listed below with the latest drivers from nvidia on my 6800GT. I am playing on high settings, with zero AA, except I had to turn off shadows and turn down my viewing distance to 95. I had to turn down something else but I am at work and don't remember what that is.

Anyways, I tried to see if going down to medium settings would make things run smoother. Wrong. The game did the exact same thing. Things will be going smooth for a bit, then i'll turn or fire my weapon at times and it will just basically skip really slow for a second then return back to normal. By this time I am dead. IT does the same thing for both high and medium settings which makes no sense to me.

I have my AGP set in bios to 256MB
I have fast write off
I have the nvidia/ati overclocker in bios turned off.
Vsync is off

I have the card overclocked to something like this: 400/1.10Ghz nothing even extreme. 3dMark05 gave me a 5700 score, which isn't fantastic, but its up there. What are some possibilites that could be causing this problem?

When I overclocked the card, I had trouble following the guide using nvidia's coolbits cause I could not find certain settings to turn them off, especially D3D settings which seemed non-exsistant in the menu.

Memory, Without loading on to a server it takes up 600+ MB of memory, It sky rockets once it loads a map and only gets worse when other people are around. 1.5 - 2GB is reccomended.

Try turning dynamic lighting and shadows down to medium. I'm running a very similar setup and that works for me. I run 1280x960 with 2XAA and 8XAF and it's definately playable.

Memory may be a valid point but I get this sort of lag too.....mostly at the start of maps for about 10 seconds when I first spawn then it is fine....surely if it was RAM then I would have some disk churning (laggyness) as I move to different areas of the map....I have heard a lot of people on most of the servers I play on talking about the lag......so I am wondering if it is a problem with the game itself!

LAG? Do you play on the same servers all the time ?

you could try MSCONFIG and turn off all startup items from loading and disable all non MS services that might help abit.

Did this happen with the demo also ? I have XP 3200 with only 512 MB of ram and the demo runs fine here most of the time.

The game is a memory hog either get more ram or lower some settings to reduce memory usage.

This game is a real resource PIG!! I upgraded to 2 gig of memory when i got BF2 and it does make a difference.

Check memory usage in Task Manager. Test by creating a local game to isolate from potential network issues. Why fast write off - AMD thang? Try lowering AGP to 128 or even 64 since if the game is not requiring more than 256 VRAM, critical system RAM may be unnecessarily reserved (if my understanding is correct).

While the 2GB argument is valid, you see lots of ppl on their 9800 Pros playing...

Did you try turning textures to Medium? Medium textures use up less RAM, so you could try that.

I have 1 gig and 9800 pro, and it runs very well actually, most settings are medium, a few things set to low...

I am looking at the x800xl and another 512 of ram, then it should be silky smooth

I don't think the game utilizes resources appropriately, though it is a very fun game. I'm beginning to think I'm limited by my cpu, since in 64 person games I can drop into the 20-30 fps range. I probably average around 55-70 most of the time. Run at 1024x768, 4xAA and everything High. Sys specs are 3000+ @ stock, 2 gb ram, x850xt. Shrug.
