Which are the best? I've hard a hard crash in Halo, some people seem to say that there happen with 81.85....(I just upgraded to 81.87) but are ones like 77.77 and 78.01 better foy my 7800GT?

I play games like BF2, Halo, HL2/CS:S.....and I'd love all the extra frames/stability I can get in BF2.....thanks.

Also, which optimization causes the "shimmer"? Did this just suddenly pop up in one of the drivers? I know turning the setting to quality fixes it, I did that and see no more shimmer....but what driver version caused it?

I would suggest the XTreme-G 81.87-v2 drivers. They've been optimized to reduce stuttering in games like Battlefield 2, and are set at default to "Quality", so shimmering is at the very least less apparent 😉 🙂 .

Hmmm, leaked 81.89 leaked WHQL....must try. They say its better than those 81.87-v2 modded drivers!
