BF2 dies

so i spent the last week overclocking my new rig and getting it stable only to find out when 3d comes into play it dies. but this is the puzzling thing.

i had my rig OC to 2.66 on x2 3800 (prime stable) ram set to 178 (266 divider) 2-3-3-7 2t. started to play BF2 and on my first map all the grass looks like water. so i was like WTF. then i restart it and run it again. same deal water grass but only this time there is a black box artifact that changes in size with movement. so i think that my OC is making it crazy. so i go into BIOS lower my clock speed to 2.5 and run it again. good news the water is gone and no black box. so i start to play with all my friends and then it just closes the game. so i said okay let me take it back to stock. run the processor at 2.0 and the ram at ddr400 2-3-3-6. start to play BF2 again and it looks good but craps out still. why???

i was thinking that it was my ram timings and since i was running 4 dimms that it was too tight and overlapping causeing the game to get messed up. im not to sure. so could someone start leading mein the right direction so i can start diagnosis.

does anyone else have this problem???

Your first problem sounds like video card overheating, if you did not overclock your video card, then I guess it could be file corruption from O/C. However your mobo should have a PCI lock that protects the hard drive from file corruptions. You have all the latest patches and fixes, I assume? If so, then I would try a reformat/reinstall of XP, BF2. It is a pain, but it sou7nds like there might be file corruption that can only be fixed via this method. If it is still problematic, I would guess that you might have severly damaged your processor or mobo. Another thing might be to do a memtest at stock speeds to ensure your RAM is ok.

i could try and lower the speed of the ram but i dont see why they cant run at the ddr400 with the spec timings. worth a try though.

about reloading my os. lol. i just did it right before i loaded the BF2. as for the patches i didnt load any but all the guys that i play with on our lan is using the same version as me.

you think that i really could have damaged my cpu and mobo??? if i did that would suck. but i really dont think so cause it does everything else good except the game. i was playing fear for about a hour and a half with no probs with the same specs at 2.66 178ram. idk. ahhhh computers....

If you are running 4 sticks of memory...try 3-3-3-8 T2 and bump you voltage to 2.8....you should not expect 4 sticks to always run at factory specs. There is often too much latency using all 4 memory slots for memory to run at those settings.
