BF2 crashes to desktop when joining a multiplayer game

I was in the mood for a war/shooter type game so bought BF2 the complete collection from EA's online store. After downloading and installing it I am unable to connect to any multiplayer games. A server on my own pc against bots works fine so I figured it had to be something to do with punkbuster. I have updated punkbuster manually, removed and reinstalled it, tried some old fixes I found by searching but nothing is helping so far. It crashes the exact moment I try to join a server. Any ideas? This is really annoying me I'm beginning to wish I bought COD4 instead.

NEVERMIND finally fixed it. I reinstalled everything from scratch I think it didn't like the way I copied the install files to a different directory than the EA downloader was in. Guess they force you to use that when you buy it online so you can't just give the files to someone else.
