BF2 crashes to desktop on my new computer...

I just finished building my first computer yesterday. It runs extremely well with all games except BF2. I'll be playing it for about 5 minutes and it'll CTD. I'm getting good FPS and all that, but it still--just out of no where--crashes to desktop.

Yesterday it didn't even run for a minute or two before completely locking up and I had to reboot.

The only thing I changed from yesterday to today was the drivers--I've updated them all (chipset, audio, video).

What could be the problem? I know that the new patch causes memory leaks, but that's not the problem because I don't have it installed.

Here are the spec's on my comp:

Did you use the v1.01 patch? This is known to cause major problems and EA is working on a hotfix that will be out shortly.

No 1.01 patch... I thought I put that in my post somewhere :-/

Yeah I know of the memory leaks that's why I reinstalled w/o the patch and it still does the same thing.

I'm pretty sure it's an overheating issue.

A little off topic, but, nice rig. Try the patch. Why such a weak PSU for such a good rig? How about something dual twelve volt rails?

I figure the PSU is good enough for what I want the machine to do... I don't plan on OC'ing so there's really no need for a better PSU?

The reason for a better PSU is that your video card and processor alone will use up almost all of its potential power. But its safe to say those 2 items alone are using more than 2/3's of ur psu's power. For newer systems i wouldn't get anything smaller than a 480watt PSU. Even then it might be better to get something with a little more power. I'm running a 600watt PSU in my system, but i'm not overclocking either. But i know i have the power i need. 380watts is definately pushing it.

First : before sending him into an older version of Video drivers: version ?
Second: Get the patch! works much more smoothly
third: 1280x 1024 ? multiplayer mode eats a lot of resources, might want to switch to 1024x 768 and see if it works. only bummer is that every time you change the res or drivers it has to optimize shaders and other stuff takes a while, but you got a machine a little better than mine.

and btw, my 6600GT runs on an Antec 350 PSU...

Well I have a desk fan blowing into the side of my case now and I haven't changed any of the settings and the game runs just fine now...

I have something interesting to add to this thread. My BF2 was doing just fine all last night until I added the patch. Today, it was crashing left & right. I uninstalled & reinstalled without the patch. It's not crashing as often, but still crashes more often than before I applied the patch at all. It crashes more often in Multiplayer Mode than Single Player Mode. Strange, I know.

If it isn't the heat it probably the fact that BF2 is buggy as hell and was released too early, even though they pushed back the release date. The patch is for things that should have been in the game to begin with. I can't believe they released a sequel that had a menu interface even more terrible than it's predecessor. (which at v1.69 still left a lot to be desired) I guess that is EA (electronic abomination) for you though.

edit: also, if you haven't got rid of the videos from the mods folder yet, I highly suggest you do that. (as cool as loading a 64 MB video is just to use a $hitty menu is...) And you might want to check out the all seeing eye to find servers because the in-game server finder is just utter crap.
