Team,

Its been awhile since i last posted on this forum. Keeup up the good work.

Just thought id add this thread in for those players who were frustrated like me while playing BF2 in multiplayer mode and constantly crahsed and exiteted to windows.

The solution is to disable your HYPER THREADING in the bios.

Seem to work for me, now i can play on hours without a crash.

Goodluck.

I dont think it should be a problem as your disabling the HT feature, and not the actual cpu?

But i dont have DUAL cpu so i couldnt really comment.

Well the HT tech tricks Windows in to thinking it's two CPUs in order for it to work. It was listed as two CPUs on my P4 rig.

Your correct regarding the dual cpu processing and how its like having two cpus.

I checked my Task manager and now its only got one stats for CPU Usage history

Well ... thats the sacrifice we need to make to play bf2 i guess ;)

I hope EA bring out a fix for it.

Btw, i tried to paste that link into the rig section link, but its not updating ...

Thats exactly what i did before, and again now and still no update ...

I think it might take awhile to replicate, as i just deleted the enitre line and its still shows up. Might wait abit and check again.

Thanks

You mean you're unable to update your profile? Maybe you are updating the wrong part of the link tag (though the text of the link isn't updated either?)

Oh, no, that's on the rig page itself, and I think it's meant as a textbox to tell you the actual link (but it isn't actually correct, it's a bug so just ignore that textbox completely). If you change that, nothing will happen. You need to go in your profile and put the correct link in your signature.

Why not simply set the BF2 executable's affinity to only one of the CPUs? A similar problem affects certain games like System Shock 2 and here's the solution (I've tried it and it works):

I've yet to encounter this crash issue, but thx for the heads up.

Btw this thread might be better placed under the Software Apps n Games forum.

I don't know if this is the same as the dual-core problem. Disabling one CPU may not be enough, HT may need to be disabled period if there's some low-level issue.

Thanks for the executable header image modification program though, definitely something to add to my toolkit. That may cause problems with PunkBuster due to the executable being modified though. You may be kicked, or maybe even banned for "cheating" so it's not something I'd want to try myself on PB games. A tool like RunFirst probably won't trigger PB's "checkpoints" and it's already in use by a ton of people with the dual-core problem.

set affinity , on dual AMD cpu's , bf2 rocks, lve hade no problems and lm running 32/64 bit windows, the sound drivers all work , theres no bugs ?
My INTEL rigs are a bit older and dont have HT , so .......

The dual core AMD rigs l must say can record with FRAPS at 40 to 60 frames a second to your hard drive while you play the game as smooth as if you were not recording , l sh@t you not its incredible. V8 race driver movies for an AMD shop 4.2 gigs worth of video files, earnt me that 7800gtx in my sig............

I was having problems with BF2, but I switched to 81.94 64bit and now I never have to set my affinity. These are the best dual core drivers yet.
