recently I've been getting disconnected within 1 minute "bf2 connection to server has been lost"

So I've been playing this game for nearly 3 years. Reinstall punkbuster usually solves the problem or else reinstalling the game will solve it too. After uninstalling and reinstalling punkbuster will not fix the issue. I uninstall the game and reinstall the game works for a day or 2 and then back to square one "bf2 connnection to the server has been lost"

I love this game but Oh my god this is driving me insane. BF2 needs to get rid of punkbuster. All it does is create problems. There's already hacks up the zoo in bf2. EA I F'in hate you.

Yeah, had a bunch of issues in the last week with PB, was getting the "Inadequate OS privileges" error upon joining servers and was immediately booted. Had everything running as admin, in compatibility mode. Still booted. Updated PB manually, finally worked.

I loved BF2 but it was one of the shittiest coded games I've ever played.

Maybe, but it makes COD:WaW seem like a weekend senior project for an EE major

I've never had to reinstall uninstall punkbuster, EVER.
You on vista?

My recommendation is to uninstall BF2 completely, google how to completely rid yourself of the game, and then reinstall it. You shouldn't have to do an individual installation on punkbuster, never heard of that ever.

This happens to me every day now. I've uninstalled the game and reinstalled countless times. It doesn't help. It's a punkbuster issue. Sometimes I would stay connected for hours and not a single problem then all of a sudden I won't be able to connect without getting disconnected.

Did you download PBsetup and update punkbuster manually?

What OS do you have? Vista? 64 bit?

Recently change your firewall?

Recent changes to your hardware? Sound card? CPU?

Vista x85

No

No

It worked fine then 1 day I'm getting disconnected.

Yes I used pbsetup, pbsvc to uninstall. Even deleted pb files in bf2 and then updated with pbsetup.

It is a punkbuster issue. I would mess with pbsetup and pbsvc and then my game would work for a while and next I would get disconnected again.

I don't understand where the manual punkbuster installation came from. If you were to have a clean system (fresh from a format) and you installed BF2, thats all you need to do. YOu don't need to install punkbuster separately or after or before installation. By you installing punkbuster, you probably screwed around with some registry files unintentionlly and now you have this problem.

I have yet to experience any of these problems with BF2 and I've been playing for years.

That's not quite true. If you install 1.41 update currently you need to run pbsetup to get the updated punkbuster files.

When I installed vista last year I didn't use pbsetup or pbsvc. Later it I get pb problems.

I also uninstalled bf2 and even deleted everything from the registry that has anything to do with pb or bf2 yet I still have the same issue.

I uninstalled again and reinstalled and used pbsetup and I can play fine for now. I'm not sure about tomorrow.

pb gets bloated on older games so more people get annoyed, less people play, and they have to do less support for the game

That's true, and why I still play cod2 extreme mod servers instead. bf2, 2142 waw all suck ass compared to cod2 modded infy. Just much more consistent and stable.

PB has worked in streaming servers on cod4. However, I play on servers w/ decent admins and pb off if at all possible.
