For those Gamespot Complete members, Gamespot has it for download. I'm sure it's on other sites as well.

You can get the patch here:

It doesn't look like any of the servers are patched. I keep getting a "Failed to connect" or "Data differs from server" message.

apparently there was a mixup and EA sent the worng version to 3dgamers...it was a beta version, hence it would not let people play online...apparently it has been fixed, so i would reccomend re-downloading it

this patch seems to be the real deal, game feels a lot smoother overall now, netcode with regards to weapons and infranty is much improved, and some new effects are in place (when u fire a tank, now there is a sort of red belch of flame in the animation..looks neat) Overall, kudos to Dice and EA!

Can you explain more? Like your current settings and what exactly is happening, etc... or you could try searching some old BF1942 threads for performance-related issues.

Battlefield 1942 North American 1.2 Patch Released

After weeks of steadily growing anticipation, DICE and EA are proud to present the North American version of the Battlefield 1942 1.2 patch (a European version is currently in the works). While there's a more detailed list of the fixes and tweaks below, we wanted to highlight some of 1.2's features including a new file structure for mods and expansion packs, improved AI response, and better support for NVIDIA cards.

We'd also like to thank the hordes of players who suggested other enhancements, tweaks, and fixes they'd like to see. Rather than ignore those suggestions, we chose to include as many of those suggestions as we could in the 1.2 patch. We've been thoroughly testing the patch and feel that you'll truly find that this patch will only make your Battlefield 1942 experiences better. So from all of us at DICE/EA, enjoy your holiday weekend with Grandma?s pumpkin pie and a healthy dose of Battlefield 1942!

Try disabling sound and see what happens. I might be sound. Try lowering all sound properties to the lowest setting.

Installing the patch fixed all the problems for me.

optimistic:

I don't have the game, so I can't help you too much, but...

I read a site recently where someone said that if he disabled hardware acceleration for his SBLive, the choppiness went away. If he enabled acceleration, it returned. So try disabling it.
