BF1942 or Joint Ops?

I've been playing demos of both games, and so far I like JO better than BF1942. JO seems to run a little better on my computer (BF1942 EA intro went reeeeeaaallllyyy slow, but after it was done the game ran fine--I just disabled the intro). BF1942 just seems clunkier. It's also nearly impossible to kill someone when on foot compared to being in the ?overpowered? vehicles.

So it looks like I'll be buying JO... anyone have any objections? Comments? Suggestions?

BF42 no contest. The game play is better and it is a much better value. There are so many excellent mods for 42 that you could choose to play in real war of the past 100 years or many other fictitious wars. The vehicles are better, you have more play style options, and there are more people online. Infantry can be very deadly once you learn its limits.
The only good thing about Joint Ops is the very large game.

It looks like you've already decided, but just my thoughts..

The vehicles in JO suck a big one -- their physics (ha!) aren't that far from a RC car. Being on foot in the huge levels is great, though, because you don't know where an enemy may be hiding, and that's not something that can be done in BF's barren maps. BF's vehicles combined with JO's maps and foot-game would make for quite an experience, but as it is you have to decide which is more important to you.

JO. But it depends on what you like. The best game for modern style warfare is Joint Ops. For older style BF 1942. In JO, I just dont drive the vehicles, and have pple drop me off. 😀

I like JOps better. Graphics are better and maps much more interesting and immersive. Problem with BF is that terrain features are basically limited open tundra with hills and valleys here and there. JOps has lotsa thick foilage and more interesting terrain features. BF just can't match the cool firefights you see alot of in JOps.....pitched battles with the enemy just a few yards away (this is where the foilage and terrain features come in) with artillary raining down.....very cool.

Did you guys see the new WWII mod (made by Dice) for BF:V? Basically BF1942 with better graphics, more foliage, and the updated game features of BFV eg capture timer, 3d map, etc.. Not coming out for a while, but check it:

JO. I own both and play JO more than BF1942. I don't even have BF1942 installed right now. Maybe I'm weird but I never found DC to be all that. I actually used to play a lot more regular BF1942 than I ever played DC. But now, with JO you can have such huge games and all the vehicles are fun.

BF baby! Desert Combat is one of the best ones around 🙂

gameplay is just different, but for my money i'd go with DC. funny thing is, JO runs slower on my machine than DC

I like them both for different reasons, and JO is getting all of my playing time right now. It's easier to find a better coordinated game in BF, but the fights in JO can be incredible.

Been playing the JO demo, but IMO it's nothing compared to BF - not as fluid. Part of this bias may simply be that I've played BF for so long and really love it.

The mods for BF are great. Desert Combat is great, but Forgotten Hope, as I mentioned in another thread, is fantastic...sound and graphics are great!!!

So my vote - get BF and get the mods, but either one will be fun.

Hey, make a poll. That's pretty much what you're getting now, and it will make it easier to see a summary of people's opinions.
For my part, I can't speak for JO because I haven't played it. As far as BF, I agree that the vehicles overpower the footsoldiers, but you learn to use everything to your advantage.
I guess I can't say "play BF instead of JO" because I don't know how they compare, but I do recommend playing BF.

I'm a big fan of Battlefield Vietnam these days, but you will get more value out of Battlefield 1942. I never really got into too much of the regular gameplay of BF1942...I totally agree that the foot soldier is at a major disadvantage, but it is not so in Desert Combat. In Desert Combat there are several maps that are dedicated to foot soldier fighting and it is much easier being a foot soldier and getting some good kills.

Joint Ops is okay, but the gameplay has a very awkward feel in comparison to Battlefield in my opinion. Some people seem to love it though...so I'm sure if I kept at it, I'd enjoy it more...but it just doesn't peek my interest enough.

I think we should see some really cool mods coming out for Battlefield Vietnam...and even without the Mods, I love the regular gameplay. You have the same "foliage" that you get out of Joint Ops, with the superior gameplay/vehicle phsics of BF. The helicopters are a blast to use and with the newest patch, the sides are pretty evenly balanced (well so it seems with my limited playing w/ the new patch...just released yesterday). Also, I love the atmosphere of the game that makes you really feel like you are in Vietnam...from the music, to the map design and graphics. A lot of fun. I will agree though that you will need a decent machine for a fun gaming experience. If you don't have a decent machine (with plenty of memory), just get BF1942.
