BF 3 50% off

BF3 is a pretty good game. The singleplayer campaign feels like a tacked-on Call of Duty clone with no soul; it's nice to look at, but my God is it poor in script, execution, dramatic tension and excitement. The multiplayer is your typical Battlefield brilliance that they've been delivering and improving on since BF 1942. It kind of sucks getting into the game at a late stage since everyone will invariably have more unlocks than you, but the starting weapons aren't significantly worse than the unlockables, so you'll never feel like it's an impossible hill to climb. The vehicle unlocks might be more of an issue, but I've always been more infantry oriented in the BF games, so I can't speak to that.

I went for the game and the shortcut bundle on Origin. Figured why not? Been waiting for a deal to pick it up. Incoming twink!

So, anyway, pay for everything and download Origin. Install it. Install ends mysteriously without any messaging. Click the shortcut. Get permissions error from Windows. Woo hoo! Way to go EA. Try it again. Same thing. Hunt around, find a thread on the support forum where the online rep replied once back in March with some useless bs about a manual uninstall (which the OP tried unsuccessfully). Found another thread on an independent board with the answer: run OriginTMP.exe and wait a few secs; run OriginClientServices.exe and wait a few secs. Then run Origin.exe.

Hope this isn't an omen on the rest of the game. You'd think EA could write a damn installer.

Actually no, I wouldn't. 😀
