One of the things that annoys me is the word "burgers" in veggie burgers, especially the older style that didn't really try to be beef. I feel like it setup people for disappointment. They were expecting something like a traditional beef burger, and got something not even close. Veggie burgers are great, but should be appreciated on their terms, and not considered a replacement for anything.

Not sure what you'd call them though. Calling them "burgers" sets up the whole preparation/presentation method, but isn't entirely accurate. There's probably a good foreign or technically accurate word, but people are stupid, and would have no idea what it even was if you used it :^/

- Yes, one of the bigger issues with "meat replacement" products is precisely that they're trying to be "meat replacement" products, which sort of sets them up for disappointment because no matter how good they taste on their own accord, they're not anything like actual meat.

IMO it would have behooved these companies to actually brand these things different, use different words or make up a pure marketing word to associate with replacement products so the consumer knows what they're going to get but doesn't anchor to the consumer to an expectation of "tastes like beef" or "tastes like pork".
