I see a lot of that . . . . people strapping on two fans. For me, just a beefy 120x38 would be enough. I avoided it with this ducting scheme I described.

It may even be the case this is my last air-cooled rig, or just preparatory to water-cooling replacement in the same case. I'm expecting to capture the same sort of "fanless" configuration on this CM Stacker 830. The fan will either be a Panaflo H1 120x38 or a Delta tri-blade I retired from another rig last year. I also have this 1.0A Delta capable of about 200 CFM. I don't think the amperage is excessive for the mobo -- capable of a cumulative 7.5A @ 12V. And THAT SUCKER . . . . now THAT is HEAVY.

And your "IMHO" may be "right-on." I think I had that in mind when I chose not to put the fans on the TRUE for the last project.

Old Hippie - the Achilles hasn't done too well in web reviews so far, and the review at Newegg confirms the same results. I don't mean the one from the noob babbling about it not fitting in his case and push-pins, the second review about the temps.

That was the first version. Click my link and look at the difference between the bases between versions I and II.

It looks like the base problem with the first version has been fixed.

Only time and a few tests will tell if there's been an improvement.

Sorry, it was 3am when I read that, the version 2 in the link didn't register. I hope to see some tests soon, to see how much difference a few mm makes!

I don't trust all heatsink reviews for the main reason they rarely keep the fans consistent. It's a nice tool for comparison, especially if the heatsink in question has a pre-installed fan but otherwise, you are at the mercy of the reviewer and whatever fan they decide to use.

Which is why SPCR rocks. They give you the temps with the stock fan and their reference Nexus fan for comparisons unless the heatsink has a non-replaceable fan.

Sure. I've seen some SPCR reviews. But I still wouldn't go with a single review unless I'd checked against other sources.

Well when you have BonzaiDuck and aigomorla conversing you need to get a pen and paper and take notes!

Peace to both of you!!

Hadn't seen you around here for a while! I know for sure that I've been absent . . . I'll be frank . . . it's campaign-season, and I'm "fired up! Ready to go!" That's a dead giveaway . . . .

. . . . Trying to build this extra system . . . . . add a few comments here . . . . and I'm "up to my a** in alligators." don't let me go into the details. I just know I'll heave a sigh of relief in November. . . . . . . whatEVER happens . . . . .
