Beware of TigerDirect and Abit USA

CUSTOMER:
Please review the attached pdf file and let me know if I qualify for the $30 USD Abit rebate, since I purchased the Abit AX8 motherboard (TigerDirect item number A458-2114) from TigerDirect.com on 4/29/06.

ABIT USA:
Due to the price drop of AX8 to $64.99; both Tiger and ABIT will not honor this rebate. Please contact Tiger Rebate Center if you have any question.

CUSTOMER:
Thank you responding to my e-mail. I carefully reviewed the Abit offer BEFORE placing the AX8 order with TigerDirect.

The Abit rebate form DOES NOT say anything about invalidating the offer if the purchase price is below xx.xx USD. The stipulations are:

-purchase a retail (boxed) AX8 motherboard from TigerDirect between 4/13/06 and 4/30/06.
-complete the rebate form
-enclose proof of product purchase in the form of original or copy of sales receipt from TigerDirect.
-enclose original UPC barcode and EAN barcode
-postmark by 5/30/06
-limit one rebate per name, address, household or company

From 4/29/06 (date of my transaction) to 5/02/06 (today), the AX8 motherboard at the TigerDirect website has a REGULAR selling price of $64.99 plus shipping and applicable tax. The webpage DOES NOT specify that this is a promotional price, and therefore, many not be combined with any other AX8 rebate.

At this time, the AX8 motherboard has been shipped to my residence. Unless you can point to another clause in the rebate form that would invalidate the $30 Abit rebate, I must insist that Abit honor the rebate if I comply with ALL the terms as appeared on the rebate. Failure to do so will constitute fraud on the part of Abit and require that I elevate this issue to the proper Federal AND State agencies for judicial review. I may also seek personal and compensatory damage against Abit USA. Furthermore, I will post this information at various computer forums to prevent others from making the same mistake of purchasing an Abit product.

I have always been a loyal Abit customer. Unfortunately, it appears that new Abit management has decided to use deceitful advertising to sell the product. It is my hope that we could achieve a win-win outcome.

Please review the enclosed forms and provide me with you thought on this problem.

ABIT USA:
After contacting Tiger, Tiger has proof of sku level and there has been no rebate offered. Furthermore, ABIT is not responsible for any Tiger error.

ABIT will not offer this rebate and will be automatic rejected. Tiger has acknowledged your option as to return your purchase. Please contact Tiger customer service.

Sorry for your inconvenience.

Lesson learned:
-Never buy stuffs from TigerDirect (should have listened to others here)
-Never buy stuffs from Abit

I hope others can learn from my experience with this transaction. I also predict that Abit will get out of the motherboard business within the next two years. I've built approximately $800 worth of Abit board per year. As of today, Asus and ECS will share the spot vacated by Abit.

I can completely understand Abit not honoring it if it's not a manufacturer rebate. Did you save the .pdf? If it was a Tiger offered rebate you should be going after them, but if it was supposed to be direct from Abit, then yeah, they're in the wrong. Weren't they supposed to be going out of business like a year ago anyways?

TigerDirect is full of s***, they have got me like that at least 3 times. I mean just in rebates they owe me over $200 bucks.

If that was a TD rebate, then yeah, Abit isn't responsible for it.

Also, this should be in Brag & Moan, not here

LOL
Fool me once, shame on you.
Fool me twice, shame on me.
Fool me three times and we take away your Hot Deals card!

Stop ordering from them when rebates are involved! 😀

If this is a TD rebate, contact them. If this is an Abit rebate, I don't see any reason you should not qualify. However, I don't know if $30 is worth what you might have to go through to get it. Sorry to hear about the hassle.

the first time I let it slide
the second time is when I stopped.
I just had bought a lot of parts for building a computer.

Where did you have to send the rebate into, TigerDirect or Abit? That would be the first question I have for you. It might NOT be Abit's problem, but TigerDirect's problem. Otherwise, yes, I certainly recommend you DO send this to your State AG (Attorney General). In fact, many Attorney Generals have been really cracking down hard on companies that do not honor their rebate obligations, and will hold either the company that you purchased the item from accountable or the manufaturer of the product itself.

I believe it was a year ago, but Best Buy was held accountible for rebates on a monitor after they (Best Buy) made a mistake and posted the rebate for the product when the comany offering the rebate would not honor the rebate from them.

I personally have a Linksys rebate that I am battling for, but I am in the initial "reject first submit" stage, so I will know in a few weeks (they tried to claim that I purchased the item after the range, even though I purchased it at 11pm on the last day of the offering, they didn't specify what time-zone the rebate was valid for, so I guess they might be claiming that in EST it was 12am, but the store that I bought the product from was still on the day of the rebate and that is what counts... heck, they are basically saying that if you buy it in Hawaii, you need to have purchased the item before 2pm on the final day...)

Some outfit bought out Abit this year.

Okay...so I got burned once by TD.

Thanks for another heads up on TD - from what I read on the various forums, it appears systemic; although this one sure looks like Abit's issue, TD is supposed to have a rebate guarantee program that should cover it. I can report one positive experience with TD rebates however - I bought their 9.99 AR Ultra 512 DDR 400 several months ago (two X $20 rebates) at 11:58 PM Pacific time on the last day for the "bonus" (second) $20 rebate, and the email invoice came in with the following day's date - called TD, they agreed the bonus probably wouldn't be honored through the system because of the order vs. invoice date timing and credited my card $20 on the spot. But I've always been a lucky guy.

Scan of the rebate? It definitely sounds like SOMEONE F%$#ED UP...but not sure if you'll ever get the $30 back. I would defi nitely report them, I would return the product and DEMAND refund of ALL shipping costs involved.

Yes, I would definitely do this. That way you get your $$$ back and you deny them the sale. TD has always been shady. They have had numerous run-ins with the BBB and other agencies. I ordered from them twice and did get good service and my rebates both times. Maybe I was lucky. I almost pulled the trigger on the 19" LCD for $149 AR today, but no way will I do that now. TD SUX! Good luck.

I am 1 for 1 from TD. But I did the paypal 2 day turn-around thingy...that cost like $3 or whatever...but least I got the MIR back...

Why did you ask ABIT if you qualified for the rebate, especially AFTER buying the product? It would seem pretty clear from the conditions of the rebate that you should have qualified.

I am starting to thing that all companys are like that I did not get 2 rebates that I send off and Have been trying for months to get them. 1 From Newegg and FXF the other from Compusa for the Jan. 1 2006 deal they had all in all $52.00. I wrote both companys and told them that they had lost me as a buyer
