I read through 16 pages of forum messages over the weekend at the Bioware NWN forums regarding the 1.21 patch and SecuROM. It appears by admission of Bioware employee's in this thread that SecuROM updated their code without any notification to Bioware just prior to them releasing the patch. Bioware people kept repeating that the code had not changed until they found out recently that it had been. A number of people discovered their NWN game would not run after installing the 1.21 patch. Apparently the new SecuROM anti pyrating code didn't work with some CD ROM drives and reportedly also with some TSR Burning software.

This has lead to a backlash among NWN owners and understandably so. In terms of actual numbers, it is hard to say how many have been adversely affected percentage wise. However, think twice before you dl and install that patch!

I read that as well, btw most users are just reinstalling the 1.20 patch over the 1.21 and this is working fine for most of them, anyway it`s recommended you just install the 1.20 update version which is a 33mb download and wait for the 1.22 patch which hopefully will fix the problems people are having with 1.21 patch version.

My advice is don`t bother with 1.21,just use 1.20 patch and wait for 1.22 patch to be released.

The only thing about all subsequent patches is that they too will incorporate the newer SecuROM software, for better or for worse. So any decision to patch beyond 1.20 will be a committment to running the new SecuROM version.
