Between my mail server and Steam Guard I'm screwed.

I've had Steam Guard enabled for a while now. However this entire week I have had a seemingly impossible problem with my mail server. I use Mail.com and apparently if you have Comcast...so I read, that you can't access their server. I can't connect to the site whatsoever and have no other way it seems to access my email nor did I find any way to contact them but googling I found a Facebook page with others having same issue and Mail.com's response was that they are working on the problem but that was days ago.

So anyway, if I can't login to Steam nor my email which means I won't be able to read help from steam support, what can i do at this point? Is there a way I can change my email without having access to old email?

Also I need a new and reliable email service that is free...not Gmail, I had issues with their support when they kept locking me out. Preferably one that isn't cluttered in ads.
thanks.

Mmm why not gmail? I have about 40 gmail accounts never had a issue. You can disable ads. Why not use ISP email address for steam?

Guess you have to wait since steam is tied to email address.

Mail.com works fine on a Comcast connection. I did find some reports that there's a temporary issue with it not working in the Chicago area but that's all. If you're in the Chicago area where there are issues with the Comcast service, that could possibly be causing your Steam issues as well.

I haven't ever seen excessive ads on Gmail (I almost never see any at all), or ever had a problem getting locked out when it wasn't my own fault by typing the wrong password. Outlook.com (Hotmail) is a good free service that also doesn't put ads everywhere.

I'm in Indiana and there are reports of us not getting in as well. Mail.com blames Comcast for blocking them and Comcast says they have no clue according to several reports like this one
http://forums.comcast.com/t5/Basic-...m-has-not-loaded-for-several-days/m-p/2195446

If I try to go to the site it just says no connection, it's impossible and been like this all week. Of course just when I wanted to play some Steam games cause it's been a while since I logged in.

Long story short, my Gmail account got hacked 3 times in one month each with a long alpha numeric password change so I really think they hacked their server cause I reinstalled Windows at one point before I changed my password and on the last one, I changed cell phones and had a new number...well Google sent verification to my old number and their support was not helpful. They wanted to know when I created the mail account but I could not remember so they refused to help me....fck them.

I forgot I have iCloud on this laptop so I'll just use iCloud mail from now on as it seems very nice. Now I have to change emails for everything which will be a pain.

As far as receiving email goes, do you not have a smart phone?

No unfortunately not. My wife and I have prepaid Tracphones cause neither of us ever use a cell and can't access the internet...well you kinda can but it's worse than dialup and most sites won't work very well on it for some reason. I tried to look up the weather once and it cost me 10 minutes off my card and still didn't load up to see the weather. lol

Mobile devices are just not something I ever had an interest in. I don't like texting, I can't use it at work anyway and just never felt much need to get online when out and about. It's just one of those things I got stuck in the past on I guess.

Drive to Starbucks and use their Wifi. The library, work, somewhere else that isn't Comcast?

I wonder why Comcast would block it?

Good idea. Actually never done that before, I assume I have to ask them for the key?

How did I mess up? I rarely log into email and alway use long alpha numerics and log in through a secure system. That's not messing up, the issue was a circumstantial one. The better question is why should I really give a crap about Gmail? Like I said before i'll go with iCloud since it's already on my laptop and visually is very appealing.

I understand that my particular situation atm is a rare one but if it happens it sucks either way.

You said you changed phones and did not update phone number for gmail. Someone just does not guess password 3 times in a row, you wrote it on a piece of paper, gave it to someone, or was a very weak password to start with. Or used it on a site with same password as gmail.

The reason to care about gmail, is lots of websites/places won't take other email address. Lots of sites won't accept hotmail/yahoo/etc because of spam/scammers.

Seems to a few more in various areas that have the same issue so I can't be crazy.

We have received your feedback about our webpage not being accessible using certain internet providers. We are in contact with them to solve this issue.
Until then we suggest that, if possible, you use a different internet connection (for example with a mobile device) to access mail.com. We appreciate your patience and apologize for the inconvenience.

I find that response funny cause I asked about it to Comcast and they had no clue about Mail.com trying to contact them nor the issue at hand and Mail.com sent me a generic response but apparently sent that one to someone else on FB.

So I took Kenstate's advice and first went to McD's, apparently they use Comcast too. Went to a cafe place and got through just fine. But didn't want to sit there and try to transfer every website email to the new one just yet.

I did get on Comcast support chat where a nice chap named Amon, after careful explanation decided to ignore half of what I said and go through the default responses until I was told he couldn't help me and someone would call...nothing yet. I also sent a message to Mail.com support but they can't read and comprehend either providing the default responses.

Just an odd issue if you ask me but whatever. I just hate how companies outsource their support to the point where they are nearly useless and if they know to have such issues could at least provide that with a simple inquiry.

You would be wrong and I said nothing of going to Yahoo/Hotmail did I? My accounts were reported to be used for spam by Google so they suspended it until I proved who I am. Not everyone just happens to think, hey, I need to immediately notify my email provider of my new # within days of doing so, but excuse the fuck out of me. Whether someone stole some emails from their server like hackers did Target,Playstation, Origin, Steam...etc, or brute forced it or pulled it out of their ass I really didn't give a crap, I was just guessing since I'm quite secure and know how to use Roboform and Linux and AV software and secure a network but people getting their CC's and other info stolen from company servers does in fact happen, rather often it appears. You are going beyond the scope of the topic really....seriously, the email thing is ok now, I'll use iCloud, it's cool, just stay calm. No one gives a shit about my past issues with Gmail nor do I. You asked, I explained ..twice now

You can't blame Google on this one, though. As far as I know, they've never had a breach.

It's very likely something you did. It's also likely you have something you don't want residing on your PC. Shared password is the most common route.

I realize you probably can't get in (nor would you care to at this point), but it would have been worth checking your dashboard to see just what has access to your account.

In any case, this doesn't really seem like a gaming related thread at all.

Would you except FREE NA support for a FREE service you don't pay a dime for? I sure wouldn't.

Log in to mail.com from another location and forward your emails to another address....simple as that.

Did you try using a different DNS server than the one Comcast uses? I have found a lot of the time the problem with Comcast is their DNS servers suck.

This is either your fault in how you stored your password, or you are connected to an unsecured wifi network, or there is a trojan or keylogger on your machine. Gmail doesn't get hacked, let alone 3 times in 1 month for some random individual. You need to take a look at how secure your setup at home is.

My first thought as well.

I bet somebody simply used your Gmail address as a sent-from spoof and mail servers automatically reported it to Google.
