I used to have this card, a Radeon 9600 Pro: http://tinyurl.com/3yykfq And it worked great. I never had any problems with anything. I loved it. I recently got this card, a GeForce 7300 GT: http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16814121021 It is supposed to be much better than my other one.

But last night I decided to try out Sim City 4 and see if the graphics were better. But when I scrolled from left to right, it got really choppy. Instead of smoothly scrolling across the map, it would jump in segments from left to right. At times, the cars on the roads got choppy where they would stall and then speed up real fast.

I don't understand. Can anyone make sense of this for me please? Thanks.

Did you properly uninstall the ATi drivers?

Did you properly install the correct nVidia drivers?

7300 gt isnt that great a bump from you 9600. its a budget card in every sense of the word. Lower your resolution and see if that helps, SC4 isnt that great of a title but it was very CPU intensive in its day.

If I remember correctly, the 7300gt is about the same performance as a 6600gt. The 6600gt is a much better card than the 9600. He should be seeing improvements with this card.

Sounds like a driver issue. Actually, choppy scrolling is reminiscent of the system using standard VGA drivers. CHeck you HW properties and see whats listed as your video card.

With standard VGA drivers, the game wouldn't even start. It must be a driver issue, use driver cleaner or manually purge all the driver files related to ati in Safe mode.

yeah, i seem to recall them being pretty good for what they are too.

op, do you have the ddr3 version of the card? if so you should definitely overclock it, they do so very well from what i understand. and it should definitely be an improvement over your 9600 pro. does the device manager say there's a problem with the video card? see if there's not some obscure driver setting that's messed up somehow.

It does sound like a driver issue, such as remnants of the old ATI drivers still present or something. I had a similar experience going from nV to ATI. I did a repair install of XP to wipe out the old drivers completely. Things improved greatly immediately. (Just don't forget to re-grab all of your windows updates, etc.)
