I like 'em both, but my preference has to go to Diamond Dave (in his prime)... Van Halen and Van Hagar, imho, were almost two completely different bands.

I'm going to see the Sammy Hagar/David Lee Roth tour in August, and hope both of them kick ass. From what I hear, Dave's voice is pretty much shot, and he's lost his scream, so Sammy is ruling.

I was wondering how that tour was going..........I figured DLR would just kill Sammy on that bill............Howard Stern guessed the tour wouldn't last a week because of the animosity between the two.........I tended to agree.........

Check VH Forums for reviews of how the tour is going. From what I've heard, the two get along fine. Dave has even said on a couple of radio interviews that the hardest thing has been keeping up the appearance that they don't get along.
I've read a LOT of reviews, and looking at the ones that seem objective, and not ones written by fanboys of either singer, it would seem that Sammy has the edge. Dave looks old, (even though his body is still cut) and from what I've heard, his voice isn't very good anymore. No more screaming like he used to.
Sammy still has his voice just like it always was, which is remarkable considering his age. (54 :Q)--(only a couple of decades younger than Red Dawn :p ) Most singers that old have completely lost their high register (Robert Plant, Roger Daltrey,) but Sammy's voice has barely changed. For proof, just listen to "Let Sally Drive" off his last album. It is ridiculously high, as high as "Dreams" was.
Gary Cherone, who is quite a bit younger than Sammy, even said it was a bitch to sing the Hagar songs when he was in Van Halen.

We'll see....I saw VH twice with all 3 singers, so I think I'll be a pretty good judge of who does a better job. I don't care, as long as they rock.

I have heard that Dave's band is awesome. They have a guitarist from the Atomic Punks, a Van Halen tribute band, the drummer from the Nixons, and the bassist used to be in White Lion.
Sammy's band, the Waboritas, is pretty good, and he's had Michael Anthony show up for several shows to play VH tunes with him, which has been a big hit.
I'm counting the days.....................

In other related news, Eddie Van Halen and Valerie Bertinelli have separated after 20 years of marriage.

So that means there's a still-pretty-hot, older babe available in California. ;)

I saw the Sam and Dave show last month, and I was impressed with Dave's performance. I still liked Sammy better, but Dave was out there doing the kicks and having a great time on stage, and yes his band is AWESOME. Enjoy the show, it's a good one.

I like them both, with all this talk I had to open up my Winamp and started playing all mp3's from them.

1984 and For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge are my more listend to CD's than any other.

Dave. No contest IMO even though I liked Sammy too.

Plus, I have to thank Dave for creating one of the single greatest Karoke songs ever with Just a Gigolo (Ain't Got Nobody). Yes, I know it's post Van Halen, but who cares. It's in the same playful spirit as Hot for Teacher and other classics. I just downloaded the video yesterday too. A classic in the lost art of making a music video.

Actually, I think that was on Dave's EP that he made while still in Van Halen. It was a cover song, I don't remember who did the original, but it is a very oldie.

Remember the video, I think it might have been Crazy From The Heat, where he was made up like a humongous fat dude, and he kept making faces the whole time? That was hilarious.
