Better Upgrade Soon, Verizon killing Grandfathering Unlimited LTE

To be fair, the reason they have such good coverage and speed is they run their business efficiently. Sometimes that means making brutal decisions.

So from what I understand, this won't affect me as I already have an LTE device with unlimited? I guess I'll just have to forgo using upgrades from now on.

Verizon is making it harder and harder to stick with them.

Well with that in mind, when my contract comes up for renewal I may just can my VZW service and head to Sprint who still offers unlimited data.

Since I currently have a 4G device with unlimited I wonder if I get to keep unlimited with future upgrades. If not I'll just buy full retail and upgrade much less often. It's worth it to have unlimited data on VZ.

everywhere i read, sprint's unlimited data is so slow it's like watching trees grow. 500kbps or so average for their 3G service

It will be worth revisiting Sprint speeds in a couple months when LTE becomes more widespread with them.

Their 3G coverage is already a deal breaker for me (keeping data in mind), it'll take forever for them to have respectable LTE coverage.

If Verizon kills my unlimited data then I will probably jump ship to T-Mobile.

Ditto. Their $30 unlimited text+data w/ 100 voice minutes is very, very tempting.

I know their goal is massive rollout this year so most people, not just large cities, will be covered. I somewhat believe it because LTE is live where I live, and I am not in a big city. Downside is, I don't have a LTE device to test with.

Not a snowball's chance in hell. Their 3G network doesn't even come remotely close to being able to be described as "covering most people". People honestly expect their LTE network to be different? By the end of 2014, their LTE network will cover some, but not even most, large cities. Forget about rural areas entirely. Quote me on it.

if i cant keep unlimited on my next uprade ill def think of jumping ship, TBH o dont really care about LTE i really only need working 3g for what i do

You're already semi wrong, I am rural... kind of... closest "big" city is 30 miles and it is a small big city and LTE is live here. I am by no means defending Sprint they are lagging big time, but they look to be pretty serious this time. I know their goal is LTE everywhere 3G is by end of 2013. Their current LTE rollout plan is more aggressive than anyone else period. Will they do it? Dunno, but I sure as hell hope so because I would love unlimited LTE as would just about anyone else on this forum.

Man this is some bullshit.

Need more details. I already have a 4G LTE phone. Will I still lose it if I upgrade to a newer phone? "Shared" data plan isn't going to help me, I'm the only one with a smartphone on the plan. 2GB would be worthless, 4GB I could deal with but it would be a pain. I'm over 2GB in 8 days of billing cycle currently. Netflix/Youtube/Mlb.tv take some bandwidth.

What sucks is I've been eligible for an upgrade since January, but Vzw hasn't had a decent new phone since November?

Who watched the video where CFO Shammo was talking about this? His comments . . . blood boils. He actually said as customers realize the speed of LTE and use it more, they'll want to purchase higher and higher tiers of data.

I'm already ticked at Verizon over their Galaxy Nexus shenanigans. Unlimited LTE data was the only thing keeping me on them. Soon as I get a notice my plan is moving to a tiered plan, I'm jumping ship. Most likely to T-Mobile as well, would prefer to have a GSM phone and better phone options.

Edit -

wtf do u guys download that requires so much data?

Streaming Pandora over your phone for two or three days over the course of a month will break 2GB easily. And thats just one app, if you're unloading stuff to Facebook or Twitter, that eats up data. Google Music or any cloud services, eat your data.

It really wouldn't be so bad if they gave me an excuse to change carriers, especially with the possibility of Google running a Nexus store.
