Which does everyone think is better? Leave on all the time or turn off? Post comments on what you think.

Don't have a choice for "doesn't matter much".

I've been doing ot both ways for about 10 yrs and I haven't noticed a diff.

i put it on standby when I'm not using it. I've notcied that my new rig which has an Asus mobo in it completely shuts off, with the exception of one blinking light, no fans etc. However my parents dell's power supply stays on with some fans. Its weird since I like to sleep in a quiet room.

mm, I think turning it on for 2 to 3 days at a time, and then turning it off to do some cleaning is good... gives the parts a little time to cool =p

I leave it on all the time, except that I have 7 chassis fans and a 7Krpm fan on the CPU, sounds like a car radiator.

My primary PC is turned on when I need it and stays on until I go to bed, regardless of how many hours I may use it. I have another one connected to a secutiry camera that stays on 24/7 M-F.

I had a friend who had his PC turned on 24/7 for a while and his electric bill went up $50 for the month. Not worthit unless you can justify the increased cost.

Think this issue has been addressed a number of times.

Turning it on and off on a regular basis can shorten the life of the components (ie. 10 - 15 times a day)
if your turing it on and off that much, doesn't it make sense to just leave it on?

My computer stays on 24/7/365. Only time it ever goes off is if i'm upgrading, or tweaking.

If you don't use your computer that often (what are you doing posting on anandtech?)

I think for 99% of the anandtech board members, if your system can hack it.. leave it on 24/7

It went up $50/month? What was he running, a Beowulf Cluster or something? A normal computer doesn't suck that kind of power.

I leave mine on 24/7 because I've read it's better for the components, it's faster access than having to wait 60 seconds for it to boot, and it's just so damn leet. :D

For the last 13 years I have built my PC's from the cheapest Pwr Sply / case /and MB money couldn't buy, and I always shut off the PC when done with it, and I have had only 1 Power Supply fail - $11.00 later I was up and running.

doesn't much matter... I leave it on while I'm at work, but turn it off when I go to bed (unless I'm downloading something)

I have to turn mine off at night. With five case fans and all the LED lights, it is hard to go sleep at night (rig is located in bedroom).
