Some NAS solutions aren't cheap though, I can say that much. If I had the money, I'd probably do it.

well, yes. but neither is offsite blu rays.

I would say that for the average family, important documents (should be small) can be stored on one of those online services (which while cheap, give ridiculously small amount of space), and/or on each other's computers.
if you have a little more scratch, get two drives and just set one to copy all files (including less important media files, not just top priority documents) to the other via a program (such as second copy).
if you have more, set up a NAS box or two with redundancy and backups. If you have even more, have an offsite nas box as well for backup.

its all really a matter of budget in the end.

Well, currently, I don't have a job, but I would like to dump some of the stuff on my PC to an external and also to copy over 2TB+ worth of DVDs to drives as well. I mean, Blu-Rays will only do so much. Especially with getting all the media, carrying around all the binders that I have and so on.

If you're unemployed at the moment, keep carrying your media binders.
Food and shelter are far more important than shuffling your movies onto various storage options.

Well, I'm with the parents since I don't have a substantial enough job to have my own place and since I graduated in May, it's been a bitch finding a job. I did have one for 2 weeks till they said I wasn't the right man for the job and I was let go. That was back in November. It sucks badly. I might actually just have to do a retail job to at least save up some money for some time, probably for my own apartment. But yeah, I've had these binders FOREVER. And considering that even an LG/Lite-On Blu-ray burner is as much or about as much as a 2TB external, I would think the 2TB external would be the better option for now.

Not really, you just need fiber optic internet connection.
my verizon fios connection uploads at 25mbps... thats 270000MB a day. Plenty.

Which means you regularly have to burn new ones and manually ship them off site. Something that doesn't need to happen
Lucky you, it's 0.3mbps here :D

So yeah, for the 3rd time in a row, I have a defective/broken Blu-ray burner. Did the same as the last one and it doesn't want to burn anything ever again.
